Film4 are doing a guilty pleasures season at the moment
What films would you consider to be your guilty pleasures?

Mine are
Showgirls
Dirty dancing
Tremors
B movies
Most 50s sci fi
(, Sun 24 May 2009, 21:07, 51 replies, latest was 16 years ago)

Where Eagles Dare (it's actually on Channel 5 at the moment)
60s/70s/80s Bond films
ANYthing with Roger Moore in it
Grease (yes, yes...I know)
The Faculty (contains John Stewart of The Daily Show fame)
(, Sun 24 May 2009, 21:10, Reply)
ooh I like the Faculty
add to that

Zulu
Von Ryans Express (one day he WILL make it)
5th Element
(, Sun 24 May 2009, 21:21, Reply)
zulu and von ryan's are not guilty pleasures, they're classics
5th element belong firmly in thr GP cap though
i like it too...
(, Sun 24 May 2009, 23:33, Reply)
OOoooohhh I'll have Tremors too...
also...
Any Bond film (except Roger Moore)
Evil Dead (All of them)
Pretty much any cheesy horror film...
Elm st, Friday 13th, Halloween, numerous other straight to video 80s slasher films

I don't actually feel guilty about liking any of these mind you.

BTW - I've been trying to get hold of a copy of this for a while:
www.imdb.com/title/tt0094793/

Any suggestions gratefully received!

Cheers
Never had any joy torrenting (is that a word?) this one - never enough seeders, but I'll give it another bash...
(, Sun 24 May 2009, 22:06, Reply)
It's on play.com pretty cheap as well

(, Sun 24 May 2009, 22:06, Reply)
Pfft
Sure, if you want to "pay" for it, like a "non-criminal". And "support" the artists. Huh.
(, Sun 24 May 2009, 22:09, Reply)
Fucking hell...
every time I've looked in the past its come up as deleted so I'd pretty much given up hope of ever finding a copy.

In future I'll endeavour to not look like a total flid who can't find his own dick without a map, set of full colour illustrations and helpful instructional DVD. Feel free to point and laugh...

*embarrassed*
(, Sun 24 May 2009, 22:17, Reply)
got it on vhs...
if that's any help ;-)
(, Sun 24 May 2009, 22:37, Reply)
I dunno
But I just watched the Shining.

Alone.

With the lights off.

Lampito?
Boo!
(, Sun 24 May 2009, 22:14, Reply)

That film does not belong in this thread.
(, Sun 24 May 2009, 22:18, Reply)
You're right
It's not a guilty pleasure. At all. In fact it's giving me THE FEAR that my father will chase after me with an axe.

More in keeping with the question, I have the ability to watch almost any film and be entirely engrossed. The worse the better. Hated Lost in Translation. Have to say I loved Van Helsing. Well want to watch it again.
(, Sun 24 May 2009, 22:21, Reply)
LOVED
Lost in Translation, although that may have had more to do with the first scene containing a picture of Scarlett Johannsens underpants.

I watched
Van Helsing the other day, utter tosh.

Underworld is good though
(, Sun 24 May 2009, 22:26, Reply)
"Utter Tosh"
Isn't that the whole point of guilty pleasures? That film is so abysmal that you can't believe they're taking it seriously. Worst accents ever? Exploding goo vampires? Kate Beckinsale?

Completely out of the blue, a friend of mine was telling me how he'd had a dream where he'd rewritten one of the Underworld films, and Kate Beckinsale was naked the whole way through. Sounds good to me.

The same friend commented that, when I brought round "Requiem for a Dream" soundtracks to my pet's house, although he'd never seen the film, he thought it was good because "it had some cracking Jennifer Connelly nude scenes in it". Anyone who's seen it, I think he meant the ass-to-ass bit. Eech.
(, Sun 24 May 2009, 22:30, Reply)
noo-oo
this was utter "Why? just, why?" tosh, not even good hearty good fun tosh like Ironman
(, Sun 24 May 2009, 22:36, Reply)
Requiem for a Dream is good
Just, not for the reasons your mate listed. Those I like to think of as the icing on top of the very, very depressing film.
(, Sun 24 May 2009, 22:51, Reply)
I love it
Though I did lose some IndiePoints for fancying Jared Leto.

When I last had a bloodtest I looked like him from the latter stages of the film. Except, not skinny and blackhaired. I am neitehr of those.
(, Sun 24 May 2009, 22:59, Reply)
Did you have
gangrene in your arm and everything else?

p.s. I had a crush on Leto too. So you're not alone.
(, Sun 24 May 2009, 23:09, Reply)
Nah, it was just that
1. I didn't realise I was having a blood test (still haven't collected the results - it was to do with ESR and everyone knows that ESR don't mean shit)
2. It was first thing in the morning
3. I didn't drink enough the day before
4. I hadn't drunk anything that morning
5. My veins were hiding
6. The nurse had to dig around before she found it
7. Even then, no blood came out
8. Until she took the needle out, when the plaster she put over it gently floated away...
9. ????
10. Profit!

All for the result of "You once were ill, and now you're not, and oh, you've got SHITLOADS OF IBUPROFEN IN YOUR SYSTEM YOU FUCKING IDIOT"

Yeah. Protip for the girls- 5000mg in 2 days will delay periods. Trufax.

P.S. But are you a 14 year old emo girl? No? Then it's a little bad.
(, Sun 24 May 2009, 23:13, Reply)
50g of brufen?
FFS - might just delay liver function too. Eww.
(, Sun 24 May 2009, 23:17, Reply)
It was worth it.
Well, that's probably debatable.

Sorry, I'm taking over this chunk of the thread.

STILL haven't watched Moulin Rouge all the way to the end :(
(, Sun 24 May 2009, 23:20, Reply)
moulin rouge
IO've never been able to watch it all the way through...

Had a few joints the first time and it seemed like i was tripping the whole way through... Now I just can't take it seriously
(, Sun 24 May 2009, 23:22, Reply)
its VERY graphic but full-on baz luhrmann
:)
(, Sun 24 May 2009, 23:23, Reply)
Fairy snuff then
Good result that :P

p.s. I'm not, I'm a 21 year old bi who tends to lean into emo tendencies, does that still count?
(, Sun 24 May 2009, 23:24, Reply)
How very interesting.
I had a party that day, so I just went around telling anyone who asked that I was back on the heroin.

I'm an 18 year old who in another world would have been horrifically scene, but is too fat/poor so is a vintage girl/wannabe vamp. And at the moment is enforcedly (a/pan)sexual.

Yes, that's right, I'm sharing teh love. Sorry.

I don't want to get the reputation as a whiny desperate bint around here. Man the fuck up, Lampito. That's it.

Bwahahaha.
Good times. I've been off all the fun stuff for a year and a bit now so I can't say that I'm back on anything otherwise I'll probably get a beating off someone. Oh well, tis annoying. But at least its cheap, and I won't end up looking like Leto eventually.
(, Sun 24 May 2009, 23:36, Reply)
The Wild Geese
I want Richard Harris to make it every time. He never does though.
