How are we all this morning, VCs lovelies? I've had a grossly insufficient amount of sleep, writing up as I was until 2am and walking to the train to work a Singapore Airlines airbus 380 just flew over on its way into heathrow.

But I'll let you get away with it this once.
I'm well thanks ta!

When is your next exam, and how has your day been thus far (its presumably around 5:30pm with you?)?
( , Wed 27 May 2009, 7:31, Reply)

Next exam is monday *shudder*. It's Maths. :(
I think I stand a decent chance of passing well this time around though.
( , Wed 27 May 2009, 7:51, Reply)

I usually just remember it that you're three hours ahead on an analogue clock, but in the opposite to me...so my eight AM is your 11PM.
( , Wed 27 May 2009, 8:02, Reply)

that'd be another way of looking at it.
have you created a chuff-chart yet?
( , Wed 27 May 2009, 8:12, Reply)

I run my own version for a few people, which I do not let anyone see...
( , Wed 27 May 2009, 8:21, Reply)

it's a chart where you mark off the days in descending order until you achieve X (whatever X is, e.g., end of exams, moving to UK)

Mine is a little bloodier... and if people saw it, they'd shoot me.

at Heathrow T4 a few weeks back. By 'eck it's a biggun!
( , Wed 27 May 2009, 8:19, Reply)

I was in the Pyrenees climbing at Christmas 2007 and flew into Toulouse airport on the way there - it is indeed a biggun.

What scares me more though is the rumour that EasyJet have ordered one for flights to the states... can you imagine being on that plane?
( , Wed 27 May 2009, 8:43, Reply)

can you imagine getting on to it? It's bad enough with the hordes of 'got to get on first' idiots on a bloody 737. I hate the boarding frenzy on EasyJet.
Mind you, human nature is a strange beast.
Why do people always queue up to get on a plane long before boarding starts, when they know they'll be called (in the case of proper airlines at least) by row number? Recently I was on a flight to the US and there was a huge queue of people waiting. I was sitting down minding my own business, but as I was close to the back of the plane, my row was in the first block called. So I got up, strolled past all the plonkers standing waiting, and went straight to the head of the queue.
( , Wed 27 May 2009, 8:51, Reply)

It would be an absolute nightmare. EasyJet's systems don't work with the boarding system at Copenhagen, so if you check in online you get re-issued a boarding card at the gate. It always leads to a huge scrum of people fighting to get on... then when they call the speedy boarders, the look on people's faces as you just walk straight past them is great.
They'd need to get something sorted out for that size plane. People will still act like idiots first... it's not like rushing to get on the plane will make it leave any earlier, is it?
( , Wed 27 May 2009, 9:01, Reply)

More haste, less speed.
Studies have shown that the best way to fill a plane is to start with each odd numbered window seat from rear to front, (you can stand in the even rows to let people past) then the even numbers, and then fill the middle and aisle seats in the same manner.
But can you imagine trying to get the general public to do this?
Not a bloody hope.

Good morning Mr Edmund!
Alas, to think that an hour ago I was asleep on the bus, now cruel work has intervened with my peaceful slumber. Otherwise, all is good.
Bet that thing made you jump!
( , Wed 27 May 2009, 8:21, Reply)

Still, it's not like there's actually work to do... another day on b3ta, methinks, disturbing all of you.
( , Wed 27 May 2009, 8:34, Reply)

woo. Methinks I'll be taking my books to study!
( , Wed 27 May 2009, 8:36, Reply)

more "frantically cramming for my maths exam".

if you'd welcome advice, i'd recommend spending the time doing past question.s
( , Wed 27 May 2009, 8:54, Reply)

and I know (roughly) what will be covered in the exam so hopefully I'll be okay....
( , Wed 27 May 2009, 9:12, Reply)

Two income streams, and studying.
I've been doing coursework for college here all year... One thing I can guarantee is it won't get done at home!
( , Wed 27 May 2009, 8:40, Reply)

I did that when I had to do my professionals (grump grump)
( , Wed 27 May 2009, 8:45, Reply)

With luck, that should be able to get me a decent enough job, save up for a bit then maybe head to uni.

Is that through Oxford Brookes? My brother did an HNC/D in marine engineering and found it a lot more useful than he would've done doing a full-on academic course.
( , Wed 27 May 2009, 8:52, Reply)

It's administered through Oxford Brookes, although the actual course is run by Abingdon College. Looking around, I notice there are a lot more openings for HNC's than for Degree level students with better promotion prospects, if not as well paid at first. Tis a fun course too, if I can actually pass the bastard.
( , Wed 27 May 2009, 8:54, Reply)

Good for you. Abingdon, eh? I know/knew someone who lives relatively close to there.
( , Wed 27 May 2009, 8:55, Reply)

when I had to go on trips to the Rutherford Appleton Lab. Their residence, Cosener's House, is in Abingdon, right down on the banks of the Thames.
One of my favourite Indian restaurants is there too, the Dil Raj.

Lovely food. Not sure if it's open any more though.
Used to go past RAL on the bus to get to work in Didcot... it was interesting watching the Diamond being built. Now I want to see inside it, but they're not doing tours yet.
( , Wed 27 May 2009, 9:04, Reply)

The food was great.
I haven't been there for a couple of years, so I've no idea if it's still there.
Diamond is impressive. I've seen it close up now, but haven't yet been inside.

I know it's pretend work for my boss at least, as we do all his and cover up his mistakes.
