Having been a proud citizen of Oop Naarth for the vast majority of my life, I've never really sampled the pleasures of London. I mean, yeah, I've been...but I've never done any of the touristy stuff, any of the stuff you're 'supposed' to do. I know some of you live or have lived in London, and probably a cheerful majority of you know the city better than me (I'm limited to King's Cross station and Camden really..)
I'm going down for a gig, but that's just on the Saturday night and I'm there for the whole weekend. I'll have a mooch round Camden like I usually do, but what would you suggest I do to fill the rest of my time? (fun touristy crap/museums/exhibitions are good, drink etc is good so long as its less than £4 a pint)

Science museum in kensington (free)
St Paul's cathedral (just from the outside)
take a walk along the South bank (go to borough market, maybe the tate modern)
Go for a look at Canary wharf
jump on a ferry and go for a look at London from the river
check out Greenwich, go for a wander up to the observatory in Greenwich park
I'll add more as I think of them.

of London b3tans who could recommend you places to go.
I for one recommend sausage followed by a pint at a Sam Smiths pub, preferably one round the corner from Forbidden Planet.

And they're right next to each other, which will easily kill a few hours. Free, too.

Although they can get busy on weekends, so be prepared to wait a while to get in.

But I quite like
- Going down to the ticket-office at Lecister Square and catching a show, you can get good tickets very cheap if you arn't to fussy as to what you're going to see.
- London Aquareiam and Namco Centre.
- Harrods
- Walking around the river.

On the Aquarium.
I think that's my very favourite thing in London.

If she was filled with terrapins and sharks, I might be swayed.

It's just a shame it's rented =(

It would probably terrify the other half though. I guess I could just buy a book or something...?
As to shows, I wanted to see Avenue Q (is it any good, does anyone know?) but they don't have a matinee or a showing on sunday, and I'm busy Saturday evening. boo :(
(, Mon 29 Jun 2009, 17:21, Reply)
but I hear tell its pretty expensive. I think I have some 2-4-1 thingers for the aquarium so I may very well pop in since a few of you have mentioned it - it's bound to dick all over the sealife centre in Blackpool.

is to wander around the City of London (and I mean 'City' and not 'town'). It's where a lot of the old stuff is and it's usually really quiet at the weekend.
Best way to do it is to buy a mini A-Z, get off the tube at St Paul's and head eastwards, just taking odd little streets and wandering aimlessly. If you've got your A-Z, you'll always find your way back again.

Reminds me of something a retard once told me:
"I always assume west is left."
Wonder who that was...

ending up, eventually, in Spitalfields on a Sunday afternoon so I can get crushed to death at the market.
(, Mon 29 Jun 2009, 15:05, Reply)
I've heard good things about the market - sort of arty crafty fashiony I believe? But I wasn't sure if it (or Camden) was open on Sundays.
Is it the kind of place you can pick up interesting stuff for a few quid or is it quite upmarket?

Great fun (especially if you get a funny tour guide on the mic) and you get a whistlestop tour of all the major attractions. Dublin does a good one too.
(, Mon 29 Jun 2009, 14:47, Reply)
Though I was going out with a professor of history at the time and he complained the whole way round about the mic guy being wrong.

How was Le France?

Paris does rather smell of wee though.

I spent four hours there yesterday.

is it free to get in? Would you happen to know if it's the museum that has the butterfly exhibition in?

is mad and ace in equal quantities (just behind Holborn tube). The British Museum - because, well, it is *the* British museum.

I've just finished work you blistering great twit - it's been a scant three hours since my original post (during my lunchbreak) and I've only just got back online having finished for the day. I don't know about you but my internet 'skillz' don't allow me to post on b3ta when I'm away from my computer and if yours do then you're some kind of fucking ninja. I also have other things to do with my life than hover over the refresh button.
I am indeed extremely thankful for all of these suggestions and I will gaz people concerned to say thanks. But, having skimmed down the replies I note you haven't actually suggested anything useful or indeed interesting or even entertaining, just bitched about how I spend my time.
I therefore suggest you pipe the fuck down.
