Good people of B3ta! I need your help...
Having been a proud citizen of Oop Naarth for the vast majority of my life, I've never really sampled the pleasures of London. I mean, yeah, I've been...but I've never done any of the touristy stuff, any of the stuff you're 'supposed' to do. I know some of you live or have lived in London, and probably a cheerful majority of you know the city better than me (I'm limited to King's Cross station and Camden really..)

I'm going down for a gig, but that's just on the Saturday night and I'm there for the whole weekend. I'll have a mooch round Camden like I usually do, but what would you suggest I do to fill the rest of my time? (fun touristy crap/museums/exhibitions are good, drink etc is good so long as its less than £4 a pint)

off the top of my head, from one norvan to another
Science museum in kensington (free)
St Paul's cathedral (just from the outside)
take a walk along the South bank (go to borough market, maybe the tate modern)
Go for a look at Canary wharf
jump on a ferry and go for a look at London from the river
check out Greenwich, go for a wander up to the observatory in Greenwich park

I'll add more as I think of them.

Are you going to whine about your own HUGE picture now?

(, Mon 29 Jun 2009, 14:31, Reply)
Yeah.
But in a different thread, when I'm not looking.
(, Mon 29 Jun 2009, 14:31, Reply)
Science Museum = Win
I can spend days in there
(, Mon 29 Jun 2009, 15:29, Reply)
There are plenty
of London b3tans who could recommend you places to go.

I for one recommend sausage followed by a pint at a Sam Smiths pub, preferably one round the corner from Forbidden Planet.
(, Mon 29 Jun 2009, 14:19, Reply)
Damn you, now I want sausage.
M&S are doing chorizo 2 packs for £4 by the way. It's rather win
(, Mon 29 Jun 2009, 15:34, Reply)
I made some yesterday by myself
totally nom.

Portable bbqs ftw.

Waitrose Chorizo is goooood.
(, Mon 29 Jun 2009, 15:53, Reply)
Not as good as M&S Chorizo. I got huuuuuge sweet red peppers to go with it as they had no chillis.
They taste soooo good.
(, Mon 29 Jun 2009, 15:58, Reply)
Natural History and Science Museums both kick ass
And they're right next to each other, which will easily kill a few hours. Free, too.
(, Mon 29 Jun 2009, 14:19, Reply)
Very much this.
Although they can get busy on weekends, so be prepared to wait a while to get in.
(, Mon 29 Jun 2009, 14:21, Reply)
Go to Tower Bridge
and sing the Thames Television ident thingy.
"Duuhn duuhn duuuuhn dun, duuun dun dun duuuuhn!"
(, Mon 29 Jun 2009, 14:23, Reply)
It all depends on what you're into, really.
But I quite like
- Going down to the ticket-office at Lecister Square and catching a show, you can get good tickets very cheap if you arn't to fussy as to what you're going to see.
- London Aquareiam and Namco Centre.
- Harrods
- Walking around the river.

Good call
On the Aquarium.
I think that's my very favourite thing in London.
(, Mon 29 Jun 2009, 14:26, Reply)
My favourite things in London
are Clendrix and her boobs
(, Mon 29 Jun 2009, 14:32, Reply)
I dunno...
If she was filled with terrapins and sharks, I might be swayed.
(, Mon 29 Jun 2009, 14:33, Reply)
I'd like to see
catface riding a catfish
(, Mon 29 Jun 2009, 14:35, Reply)
Awh,
It could be love :)
(, Mon 29 Jun 2009, 14:37, Reply)
My houseprice increased by 14.69% when she came over.
It's just a shame it's rented =(
(, Mon 29 Jun 2009, 15:14, Reply)
Oooh, Harrods
It would probably terrify the other half though. I guess I could just buy a book or something...?
As to shows, I wanted to see Avenue Q (is it any good, does anyone know?) but they don't have a matinee or a showing on sunday, and I'm busy Saturday evening. boo :(
(, Mon 29 Jun 2009, 17:21, Reply)
I always like the London Eye.
Aquarium worth a look too.
(, Mon 29 Jun 2009, 14:41, Reply)
I'd quite like to go on the eye
but I hear tell its pretty expensive. I think I have some 2-4-1 thingers for the aquarium so I may very well pop in since a few of you have mentioned it - it's bound to dick all over the sealife centre in Blackpool.

My favourite London weekend activity
is to wander around the City of London (and I mean 'City' and not 'town'). It's where a lot of the old stuff is and it's usually really quiet at the weekend.
Best way to do it is to buy a mini A-Z, get off the tube at St Paul's and head eastwards, just taking odd little streets and wandering aimlessly. If you've got your A-Z, you'll always find your way back again.
(, Mon 29 Jun 2009, 14:41, Reply)
Assuming you can read a map.
If not, you're screwed.
(, Mon 29 Jun 2009, 14:43, Reply)
Haaaaaaaaahaha
Reminds me of something a retard once told me:
"I always assume west is left."
Wonder who that was...
(, Mon 29 Jun 2009, 15:26, Reply)
:\
Who ever could have said that?
(, Mon 29 Jun 2009, 15:29, Reply)
This is one of my favourites too,
ending up, eventually, in Spitalfields on a Sunday afternoon so I can get crushed to death at the market.
(, Mon 29 Jun 2009, 15:05, Reply)
Aha, is Spitalfields open on a Sunday?
I've heard good things about the market - sort of arty crafty fashiony I believe? But I wasn't sure if it (or Camden) was open on Sundays.

Is it the kind of place you can pick up interesting stuff for a few quid or is it quite upmarket?

Open top bus tour
Great fun (especially if you get a funny tour guide on the mic) and you get a whistlestop tour of all the major attractions. Dublin does a good one too.
(, Mon 29 Jun 2009, 14:47, Reply)
Yeh, actually I enjoyed this even though I live in London.
Though I was going out with a professor of history at the time and he complained the whole way round about the mic guy being wrong.
(, Mon 29 Jun 2009, 15:28, Reply)
When I did the bus tour I was with a Londoner who had never done it herself
We both really enjoyed it
(, Mon 29 Jun 2009, 15:54, Reply)
haha - awesome
if possibly annoying. I'll look in to it.
How was Le France?
(, Mon 29 Jun 2009, 17:18, Reply)
Le France was lovely, although such a brief visit.
Paris does rather smell of wee though.
(, Mon 29 Jun 2009, 17:27, Reply)
Go to the natural history museum
I spent four hours there yesterday.
(, Mon 29 Jun 2009, 15:35, Reply)
Dolescum!

(, Mon 29 Jun 2009, 15:36, Reply)
Fuck off, I paid for the dinosaurs I got out of your taxes

(, Mon 29 Jun 2009, 15:45, Reply)
It was pretty much the only thing on my list
is it free to get in? Would you happen to know if it's the museum that has the butterfly exhibition in?
(, Mon 29 Jun 2009, 17:17, Reply)
The Sir John Soane museum
is mad and ace in equal quantities (just behind Holborn tube). The British Museum - because, well, it is *the* British museum.
(, Mon 29 Jun 2009, 15:41, Reply)
No that's fine...
ask advice and then just fuck off without a word of acknowledgement or thanks.
Poeple here just fucking love that.
(, Mon 29 Jun 2009, 16:52, Reply)
Excuse me?
I've just finished work you blistering great twit - it's been a scant three hours since my original post (during my lunchbreak) and I've only just got back online having finished for the day. I don't know about you but my internet 'skillz' don't allow me to post on b3ta when I'm away from my computer and if yours do then you're some kind of fucking ninja. I also have other things to do with my life than hover over the refresh button.

I am indeed extremely thankful for all of these suggestions and I will gaz people concerned to say thanks. But, having skimmed down the replies I note you haven't actually suggested anything useful or indeed interesting or even entertaining, just bitched about how I spend my time.

I therefore suggest you pipe the fuck down.
(, Mon 29 Jun 2009, 17:09, Reply)
*yawns*
