I went for a run after work today.
Usually as I'm running my mind wanders to rude thoughts but today was different. I've been slowly progressing in my running abilities and it crossed my mind that maybe I could train to run a marathon.

Then I thought, well if I did do it then I should run for a charity. But which charity to chose from? There is no particular illness that has ravaged my family or anyone close so I was stumped for a while.

Then it hit me and I grinned like a loon.

If I did run for this charity then I'm sure my B3ta pals here would dig deep in their pockets and sponsor me for these poor souls.

After all it's only fair.

And then I remembered I would have to give up drinking and I decided not to bother.

You wouldn't have to give up drinking
(unless you're an 8 pints/day person)

How far can you run now?

(I've gone from not being able to run 200m without stopping about 10 months ago, to running a half marathon in 1 hour 40 mins. It's very possible.)

It's about 4 miles I think.
But it's up hill at first so I run in short bursts in-between speed walking and then run all the way back down the hill and it does level off for a while. Takes me about an hour as I'm only just getting into the running thing.

only if you run the whole 26 miles in the manner of a spaz
what?

I'm saddened by this.
As a fellow cat owner you should know that there are plenty of animal charities that you could make a fool of yourself for.

Here's my stake - do a run for an animal charity and there's £50 from me.

Motivated?

Pfft!
I'm 44 and I need to wear two sports bras when I run.

I need a hell of a lot more motivation than that to run for anything.

But why not?
If you're getting into the running thing why not take it that bit further?

You are running selfishly, I think. Self self self.

I'm running so I don't become one of those old fat women that needs a mobility scooter to get round Asda.
Call it selfish if you will but I'm doing you all a favour by not taking up all the space down the tinned veg aisle.

I can accept that.
And as I am now officially overweight (according to my doctor - BMI of 28) I should do something about this myself.

But I just can't be bothered.

I've been slowly building up my excercise routine for nearly 2 years now and it doesn't get any easier.
My main motivation is getting laid and a close second is getting to run around with my nephew playing football in the park.
(, Wed 28 Oct 2009, 20:35, Reply)
Neither of those appeal really.
I have no nephews (poor Mother Disappointed - three kids, youngest one gay, other two utterly disinterested in producing offspring).

I do a lot of walking. Not strenuously enough, though, it would appear.

You can be a bit overweight and still be fairly fit.
If you're happy and not out of breath when you climb the stairs to go to bed then don't sweat it.

You're quite right
Despite smoking like a chimbley, eating too many peanuts and drinking far too much wine I'm not in bad condition for 40 and 354 days.

two sports bras?
one on the front and one on the back, no?
(, Wed 28 Oct 2009, 20:15, Reply)
I have a lovely back.
It's the rest of me that needs work.
(, Wed 28 Oct 2009, 20:19, Reply)
You don't have to exert yourself to raise money.
My workmates and I are considering growing ridiculous moustaches for Movember, in aid of prostate cancer.
The only thing holding me back is the fact that they want me to shave off my ridiculous beard before I grow my ridiculous moustache. Not too keen.

ive done that
it is a huge exertion

my wife hated it, and people on the street just think you are a tit :EDIT even more of a tit (thanks BGB)

i was stopped by the police for speeding in my sportscar with my moustache and hawaian shirt (no honestly) i asked the plod if i would have to have my picture taken for a criminal record
