I just found out Michael Foot has died

A bit of a weird coincidence here. My last post was about a job interview today (it went pretty well, I think. Thanks.) in which I said that the last time I wore my suit was for my uncle's funeral in 2005. My uncle was a journalist, a socialist and an NUJ shop-steward (father of his chapel) for many, many years and had know Michael Foot since the 1950s. Michael Foot was at his funeral. So, last time I wore my suit was at a funeral that he attended, today, when I wore the suit again, he died.

The world is full of coincidence, but it isn't full of people as good as Michael Foot. I remember him speaking at rallies back in the 1970s and 80s, usually wearing his donkey jacket, speaking up a storm and then marching resolutely to Trafalgar Square.

A good man.

Amen brother.
A real politician has passed. I doubt many will remember today's "Politician-Lite" breed.

RIP fella
They'll all be gone soon.

This is sad news
I'm afraid we all ripped the piss out of him under Thatcher, but I've grown up since then.

A man with principals always suffers under the ignorant masses.

Men with principles do too

Great bloke but silly name.

Maybe it was a descriptive surname?
He did walk funny.

Michael is a perfectly normal name

Your suit...
It's not hooded and black is it? Do you happen to carry a scythe when you wear it?
(, Wed 3 Mar 2010, 15:04, Reply)
I hadn't realised he was still alive.
Now, for Thatcher. Today would be a good day for her to peg it on account of it being 25 years to the day since the miner's strike ended. nine more hours of the day left - here's hoping...

She would have to stand in the queue behind Foot at the Pearly Gates
This gives me a glow of satisfaction

I'm still hoping to corner the ex-lax concession at Grantham cemetary.
After all, there will be coachloads wanting to shit on her grave.
(, Wed 3 Mar 2010, 16:21, Reply)
didn't agree with his politics
but respected the man himself
(, Wed 3 Mar 2010, 15:07, Reply)
Exactly.
How many modern politicians could we say that about? I still think Norman Tebbitt should have succeeded Thatcher. You knew where you were with Tebbitt.

Nazi Germany?

He would have been more effective than the Grey Man.
We could have continued the hate for a lot longer. I hate feeling nothing about a politician.
(, Wed 3 Mar 2010, 15:15, Reply)
the last few years have given me plenty of hate for politicians
Blair, Brown, Mandelson, Portillo, Harman, Balls, Blunkett, Straw. It's a roster of the mentally handicapped
(, Wed 3 Mar 2010, 15:19, Reply)
I've found them to be, in the main, a bunch of easily forgotten non-entities.
With occasional outstanding nobheads. Not many though.
(, Wed 3 Mar 2010, 15:23, Reply)
think you're right
the last few years have been ones of politicians who are indistinguishably slimy
(, Wed 3 Mar 2010, 15:28, Reply)
Well Gordon Brown for one.
Rock solid man and a decent socialist.
(, Wed 3 Mar 2010, 16:22, Reply)
The only decent socialist
is a National Socialist, I've always said.
(, Wed 3 Mar 2010, 17:05, Reply)
A good man indeed.

(, Wed 3 Mar 2010, 16:23, Reply)
I remember him from the 80s
and he looked like he smelled of wee, even then.

'wearing his donkey jacket, speaking up a storm and then marching resolutely to Trafalgar Square'.....where he proceeded to achieve precisely sod all, apart from having a cheeky wee in his trousers.
