Back at Uni now, food fair was lovely and nommish, got to try some extremely nice Iberico ham (the acorn fed stuff), but couldn't convince my mum to spend £200 for a leg of it :P
Now have all the ingredients to do a paella later in the week too :D
What have you lot been up to this weekend?
AltQ: What's the poshest thing you've ever seen, done or eaten?
(, Sun 30 May 2010, 23:16, 84 replies, latest was 16 years ago)
Or neither.
I've been shopping and being a vile degenerate creature. Had a lovely meal on Saturday though, definitely want to return there. Not particularly posh, but delicious all the same.
Seen: possibly the boy who insisted on wearing a tweed suit to a conference that was so itchy he had to wear pyjama bottoms under it to avoid destroying his legs.
Done: my ex (har har)
Eaten: Nothing particularly posh. I've had some pretty decadent things, like this. Chocolate cake, the topping is ganache, the filling is whipped cream and crushed raspberries. We then did this to demonstrate what we thought of Valentine's Day, for which we had a single ladies' party. We then wrote all the shit that we wanted to get off our chests on postits, and burnt them in a saucepan.
YEAH.

I have too many pairs of tights
(, Sun 30 May 2010, 23:25, Reply)
That just seems like it would be uncomfortable

and is only around knee length.
Quite bloody to put on, too.
(, Sun 30 May 2010, 23:31, Reply)
It was a hand-me-down from the yorkshire part of the family somewhere.
I wore it about twice.
Then got a proper suit.
How's the hair going? Still ginger? (Not that that would be a bad thing, it looked quite good from the pics)
(, Sun 30 May 2010, 23:28, Reply)
I have a brilliant brocade (Possibly? no idea what material it technically is) jacket that I wore a lot in the winter. I also have a American navy vest, which my (British) navy friend shunned me for wearing.
It's ORANGE. not ginger.
(, Sun 30 May 2010, 23:30, Reply)
from the poncho part of that statement ;)
(, Sun 30 May 2010, 23:36, Reply)
A nice big greatcoat (I think, can never remember the difference between the cuts) for winter, and a blazer-cut leather jacket for the rest of the year.
Foreign army stuff can sometimes be a bit iffy, I did once have to very carefully explain to my friend that he might possibly want to not wear his german army jacket round mine while my granddad was there, since he is Polish and fought in the Warsaw uprising (and wouldn't have actually minded, but my mum would have been very naggy about it)
(, Sun 30 May 2010, 23:36, Reply)
No insignia, or anything. I'm not a big fan of army-wear really, but it was cheap and it's comfortable and good for when I'm wearing something that a purple and silver jacket wouldn't go with...
(, Sun 30 May 2010, 23:38, Reply)
My jacket getting process basically consists of going to the £10 second hand leather shops in camden whenever one of mine starts to fall apart. Managed to find a few good ones over the years, and still spent a lot less than getting one from a proper shop would cost. (my sister's ex bought a new one, laughed at me, and then got really annoyed that his jacket stayed at the shiny, looking like PVC (despite actually being real leather) stage for ages, while mine was nicely worn in)
(, Sun 30 May 2010, 23:41, Reply)
but being Portobello it was mad expensive. I'll pass on the tip about teh second hand shops to her, she'll appreciate it.
I'm not a massive fan of leather jackets. My favourite jacket doesn't fit well at the moment :(
(, Sun 30 May 2010, 23:45, Reply)
and someone stole it :(
So the only leather jacket I currently possess is a red leather one my mother brought me back from Italy, which is a size too small currently
(, Sun 30 May 2010, 23:47, Reply)
only pic I can find of it is this one where you can't really see the jacket and makes me sad as I miss the boy in the picture.
He's actually incredible. I kind of fucked things up though, loooong story. Moral: beautiful 17 year old boys will screw everyone over, including their supposed best friend, and the boyfriend she found for him.
I'm not allowed to play matchmaker any more :(
(, Sun 30 May 2010, 23:50, Reply)
And any 17 year old will screw people over generally. They don't know how to make things work.
(, Sun 30 May 2010, 23:54, Reply)
:(
And scarily intelligent. Was going to do philosophy and physics, think he just applied for Maths in the end.
The boy in the photo is an incredibly talented musician and dancer.

B.B. was my best friend for a year or so. Went out with the boy in the photo, didn't end well.
B.B. also sings very well. And as I've said, gorgeous.

and yeah as above- 17 year olds not so good on the emotional front

He is one of those "there's no such thing as heterosexuality" sort of people.
And I encouraged it.
Shit got real quickly.

B.B. came out of it smelling like roses, the cunt.

even loosing a friend is bad enough, and he seems to have fucked over more than one person on the way
(, Mon 31 May 2010, 0:11, Reply)
All the blame could be put on one person.
The whole story is a sad and twisted mess, and everyone (apart from poor J___ was in the wrong at one point). But I blame one person.
Fucking bitch stole my man.

Bit hard to quantify. I'm not really posh, but some people seem to think I am, so maybe what I think of as not posh might be.
Probably the poshest person I've met was a Duke's son. The other stuff not so sure about

it's worth a certain number of drinks and everyone has to salute the queen which usually turns into a chorus of God Save the Queen

I seriously cannot wait for Thursday. The worst thing is I think I'm meeting my sister.
She suggested our student union though. Critical mistake. I'm going to drink so much I can't see.
Try not to throw up this time :(

than being pennied three times in a row. Great fun explaining what pennying is to people who don't know though. Don't let the Queen drown!
Don't throw up. But do have a great time
(, Mon 31 May 2010, 0:40, Reply)
Is worse than pennying.
After prelims (exams last year), was staggering home by 3 (started at 12:00) due to going through many pints of cider way too fast. It does make everyone talk extremely fancy though just to avoid the forbidden words.

going out with exes.
I'm friends with most of mine, but never did anything socially so soon after splitting
(, Mon 31 May 2010, 1:17, Reply)
I'm still on speaking terms with mine, though mostly online with the most recent due to her nursing degree, met up with her in person twice since, the one that should have been sad was really nice, the one that should have been nice left me feeling really sad after.
First one was her meeting up so she could break the news gently that she had a new boyfriend. Not realising that I knew already due to it being on facebook (and me being on the internet constantly). Went out for dinner+movie, had a nice time and a nice chat, she didn't bring it up but I told her after that I already knew and it was generally a nice time.
The other time, went to visit her at uni, saw something on the "board of silly quotes" in their kitchen about her going up in her new nursing uniform and showing the new bloke (they'd been going out for a few months by this time) a good time, which, despite it being just a piss take, really put me down (though I did my best to hide it from her and didn't bring it up), especially since (at least when I was going out with her), she was one of those very christian no sex before marriage types. This was especially galling since I was just about ready to get back into trying to find someone new (I'd been laid up by a ton of medical things and really didn't want to bring anyone in on it, and the only person who I might have otherwise gone out with was similar enough to my ex that I was worried it would just be because I was missing her).
