A good present?
Markthebrewer has always liked tattoos, and asked me a few times to have one done (as well as re-opening my belly button piercing). I quite like them too and the only reason why I haven’t done it it’s because I’m a coward.

I was thinking I could get one as a wedding or engagement present (I don’t know about your culture, am I suppose to give him an engagement present?) something sexy, probably on the side, under my belly, just high enough to be partially covered by my knickers/low trousers/bikini.

I’ve never done anything like this, so I ask for advice. Will it look ok from the beginning or do I have to give it a few days to look good? Does it hurt more or less if I have it done in colour? Is it worth to have a temporary one done until I’m sure I want it?

And for the mothers and fathers there, do you think if I ever get pregnant it’ll look awful and deformed? Should I have it done somewhere else?

Thank you.

I just gave a uni friend a ticket to bon jovi for her birthday.

Aren't you generous?!
And you didn't charge her or anything?
(, Mon 7 Jun 2010, 16:17, Reply)
No of course not.

Wow!
Has she got to pay you in beer / drive you there?
(, Mon 7 Jun 2010, 16:28, Reply)
Nope, public transport all the way,
I'm going to be in london by about 6.

I'm really impressed
Well done there. Have fun.

how chuffed was she?

(, Mon 7 Jun 2010, 16:17, Reply)
Very, she was planning to stay in tonight and go out on friday
she lives right near to the O2 as well.

good work
I'd be well pleased if someone got me gig tickets, especially big gig tickets
(, Mon 7 Jun 2010, 16:25, Reply)
Wait a sec, did you just say you want a tatto just "under my [your] Belly", as in, under the overhang so only he can see it as you'd have to be laying down (thus no longer over-hanging) for it to become visable?... to be sexy?
Oh man, I never thought about hiding a tatto under the overhanging part of my belly, I might do that and get something very whity like "Nothing to see here, move along".
(, Mon 7 Jun 2010, 16:22, Reply)
I'd call it "The Gonz Code", like The Davinci Code, as you'd only be able to see it when I'm naked and laying down.
Unless scaffolding is created.
(, Mon 7 Jun 2010, 16:23, Reply)
You confused the shit out of me
...

I'm thinking, trying to understand your message

...

I think the answer is:

Maybe I didn't mean "under" but "*insert the right preposition here*"

I have no idea, I mean that bit that is between the belly and the lady bits.

If you need to write something in your over-hanging belly you can write: "If you can see this is because I need more CAKE!"
(, Mon 7 Jun 2010, 16:25, Reply)
ignore him
we all know where you're talking about.

I once saw a tattoo there of a lawnmower and the girl shaved a line into her pubic hair so it looked like it had been mown.
(, Mon 7 Jun 2010, 16:30, Reply)
I think that's funny
But gross.

On saturday, a VERY sexy girl had a massive tattoo on her back. An awfuly done tattoo of a sexy girl, bending down to tie her shoes, showing her bottom to everybody. It was a sailor's tattoo, not sexy at all, and it took half or her back.
(, Mon 7 Jun 2010, 16:32, Reply)
that's a shame!
Bad tattoos are just upsetting. Someone told me about a tattooist in Manchester who did Amy Winehouse's tattoos. Never going there.
(, Mon 7 Jun 2010, 16:37, Reply)
They're crap
This one wasn't only badly done, the bad choice made it even worst. And it didn't suit her at all. She was very hot, but spoiled.
(, Mon 7 Jun 2010, 16:39, Reply)
The nice summer weather brings out all the terrible tatts
Faded, blurry, shit linework, patchy and shit design choices.
I'm quite a tattoo snob nowadays, and get a bit annoyed when someone sees my sleeve and says "Oh, that's nice, but not as good as THIS!" and then proceed to show me some laughably bad tribal.
(, Mon 7 Jun 2010, 16:43, Reply)
Like under the overhanging on this (semi nsfw) photo....

... so you have to lift the belly up to see it.
(, Mon 7 Jun 2010, 16:47, Reply)
Well, _my_ brain found that funny, anyway.

(, Mon 7 Jun 2010, 17:58, Reply)
It does take a couple of days to look good
as first it'll raise up a little bit and be all red, then when it heals it scabs over, so whilst it doesn't look scabby, it's not smooth to the touch or anything.

Colour won't hurt any more or less, some people find the outline of the tattoo hurts more than the rest because the needles are concentrated to a single thick point rather than spaced out like they are for the filling.

It is definitely worth at least drawing what you want on yourself with pen, I did that for the one on my ribs to see how much it took over my body and make sure it didn't overwhelm it.

I have a little one exactly where you described and it was the least painful of all my tattoos. However, it probably will stretch if and when I get pregnant or fat, but as long as you exercise and stuff it should go back.
(, Mon 7 Jun 2010, 16:23, Reply)
Am I allowed to have a look when we meet?
I think I want a little dragon, hiding the tail in my underwear. A friend of mine makes temporary ones, but I've heard they fade and look quite bad.

So, if I do it, should I give it, I don't know, 2 weeks to look good and nice?
(, Mon 7 Jun 2010, 16:28, Reply)
Yes of course
that'll cause some b3ta rumours!

The dragon sounds cute, I want a little dragon on my inner thigh, like the one Angelina Jolie has on her arm, I like that one.

I had a temporary one when I was 16 and it turned out to not be so temporary, it had hardly faded at all by the time I was 21 so I had it covered with a real one. I wouldn't trust a temporary one at all, the nature of tattoos suggests they are not temporary. Get a friend to draw one on with a marker pen and see what you think.

I'd say 2 weeks would be fine, it will have healed by then and it won't be itchy as hell anymore!
(, Mon 7 Jun 2010, 16:32, Reply)
ZOMG! Aberaccion and Kitty are gonna do it!
But yeah, as Kitty says, I'd stay away from temp tattoos, and just draw one on in non-permanent marker.
(, Mon 7 Jun 2010, 16:34, Reply)
2 weeks would be just about right
If I do it before the wedding I can tell him I want him to keep his hands (and cock) out of me, to add excitement. I think I can just manage 2 weeks.

I've always liked the dragon one, maybe in red and green. I find all black tattoos scary.

I'm very excited about seeing yours :)
(, Mon 7 Jun 2010, 16:35, Reply)
uhoh, it's black
you racist.
(, Mon 7 Jun 2010, 16:38, Reply)
:D
Sorry, I forgot my PC.

I like colours all the time; if I'm going to have something in my skin forever I don't want it to be all black.
(, Mon 7 Jun 2010, 16:40, Reply)
I agree to be honest
I want to get all of my black ones dusted with colour on the oustide of them to make them more interesting, I just can't afford it yet. Especially the big one, that cost £180 in the first place.

EDIT: I've found a picture where you can see the little tattoo, I'll just link it because it's a bikini pic so a little NSFW:

That's a lot of money.

Well, thanks for all the advice, I'm going home now.

Have a good evening.

I won't mention how much my third/sleeve cost me then...

thanks
It does turn heads, but not usually for the right reasons.

shape of it (i.e. the line it follows) looks really good
and it's the sort of style that appeals to my tastes.

have a gold star.
(, Mon 7 Jun 2010, 18:42, Reply)
I know people with similar temp tattoo experience
5 years down the line and it looked like they'd had a really bad blurry tattoo.
(, Mon 7 Jun 2010, 16:40, Reply)
mine was a tiny little daisy
so it wasn't too bad. Except for the fact that it was a tiny little fucking daisy. People thought I'd drawn it on with pen.
(, Mon 7 Jun 2010, 16:48, Reply)
a friend had a lizard on her foot
it looked like an old man's tattoo that is kind of blue and blurry
(, Mon 7 Jun 2010, 16:50, Reply)
Firstly, only get a tattoo if you really want one
Secondly, don't even think about the pain in your choice. Yes they hurt, but only while it's being done and a minor throb after. You'll have it for the rest of your life.
Thirdly, tattoos only really deform if they're directly on the belly of a woman who then gets pregnant. Even then, they return to normal pretty quickly.
Fourthly, pick a design, or an idea, and go to a good tattooist. Talk to them first, get their input, and also scope out their own work and how clean their studio is.
(, Mon 7 Jun 2010, 16:24, Reply)
Yep
I'm quite worried about the 4th one, as I don't know anyone, apart from this friend in Tenerife who makes temporary ones only.

I think I know what I want; I always wanted it, but I'm too bad with pain. If you say it should go back to normal when I recover my size, then I'm happier.
(, Mon 7 Jun 2010, 16:30, Reply)
It won't hurt that much if you have it where you plan to.
It really won't. Mine was just mildly irritating rather than painful.
Bit like Labs, really.
(, Mon 7 Jun 2010, 16:32, Reply)
I don't see you in weeks
And the first time I do, it's a cheapshot.
Wounded, Ma'am, wounded.
(, Mon 7 Jun 2010, 16:33, Reply)
Come here.
I'll lick it better.
(, Mon 7 Jun 2010, 16:35, Reply)
Ding dong!

(, Mon 7 Jun 2010, 16:36, Reply)
Seriously, the pain is fleeting, and for such a small design as I think you want,
You're looking at 20 minutes, 30 tops.
You're in Manchester area, yes? There are quite a few good artists up 'round there, I'll see if I can find you some details.
(, Mon 7 Jun 2010, 16:32, Reply)
Thank you
I think I'll go and talk with some, and see if they can draw it for me as well on my skin, as I'm rubbish drawing. It's so clear in my mind... why can't my hand just make it the same!!??
(, Mon 7 Jun 2010, 16:37, Reply)
some tattooists will let you feel what the needle is like without any ink
so you can see if you can take it for any length of time.
(, Mon 7 Jun 2010, 16:38, Reply)
Good to know
I'll ask before hand.
(, Mon 7 Jun 2010, 16:42, Reply)
I know exactly what you mean about the mind and the hand!
might have a go at drawing what I want on and see how it looks. kind of a difficult place though.

I suspect it might be painful to get tattooed as well
(, Mon 7 Jun 2010, 16:49, Reply)
Urethral tattoos are tricky

:-P
I want one on the front of shoulder. pretty much on the outside end of the collarbone
(, Mon 7 Jun 2010, 16:51, Reply)
I know where you mean
And I've seen some stunning ones there. Some Japanese work flows nicely into shoulder caps/sleeves from there too
(, Mon 7 Jun 2010, 16:54, Reply)
I'm after something similar to the symbol on the front of this
www.garthnix.com/sabriel_files/image005.jpg

which comes from a book with a bunch of similar symbols. ultimately, the plan would be to have a myriad of these symbols on back, chest and upper arm.
(, Mon 7 Jun 2010, 16:57, Reply)
Nice!
If you look at Borneo Rose tattoos, a lot of them tend to be in the same place you are thinking of.

hmm, so they do
cool, cheers

There are loads of good ones in Manchester
My friend has recently had his sleeves done and he got them done by the guy in Afflecks, they were really good. I'll find a picture.

Found:

Ignore the crappy wrist stars, they were a 16 year old mistake that I think he's had covered now with more sleeve work.
(, Mon 7 Jun 2010, 16:34, Reply)
Wow!
I don't want anything that big, but looks very good!
(, Mon 7 Jun 2010, 16:37, Reply)
I like the shading on the roses
I think that's the sign of a good tattooist, how realistic their shading is.
(, Mon 7 Jun 2010, 16:39, Reply)
It's a very nice tattoo!

(, Mon 7 Jun 2010, 16:37, Reply)
I never noticed but now that you mention it, it might be.

(, Mon 7 Jun 2010, 16:39, Reply)
It could be
But it's a triangle, not so much a pyramid.
(, Mon 7 Jun 2010, 16:40, Reply)
the eye thing
seems familiar though. I thought that was the Illuminati logo
(, Mon 7 Jun 2010, 16:54, Reply)
It's very very similar to it
Could well be that the design is intended to look that way.
(, Mon 7 Jun 2010, 16:55, Reply)
well it's interesting anyway
Though the extent of my knowledge about the Illuminati is gained from the Illuminati Trilogy by that crazy author

The Illuminati (and the anti-stuff everywhere) have me in stitches
There's articles on how Lady Gaga is the agent of the AntiChrist.

all this talk of tattoos is making me want one, too

In my experience, they only hurt if you get it directly over a bone or on a patch of thin skin
I have one in a circle round my upper arm that killed because the inside of my arm was really sensitive. The one on my back didn't hurt at all.
(, Mon 7 Jun 2010, 17:32, Reply)
I got a tattoo on my belly
and even though I was way skinny at the time it didn't hurt. When I put weight on, it didn't deform.

But yeah, if you're going to get one just make sure it's something you really, really want to do.
