I'm a little disappointed in everyone. I haven't been emo/ranty for ages now and no-one has commented on it. Do you people not watch Supernanny? You have to praise me when I've been good and not just give me attention when I've been bad.
How are you today?

I have noticed, just didn't wanna be a suck-up.
And I've seen better days.

Also, well done BGB, and thank you again for sponsoring us!

gaz me your email address?
(, Mon 12 Jul 2010, 9:05, Reply)
It's really kind of you to offer though. We did it in an hour and six minutes, which was a best time for Ms Foxtrot but obviously nowhere near mine, but I'd much rather have done the whole thing with her, obv.
You must be in a very good mood today?
(, Mon 12 Jul 2010, 9:43, Reply)
Well, you should have run faster. I'll send the money as soon as I get home.
I'm in a very good mood, but a bit dissapointed in general. Spain has a great team and not a single one of their matches have been spectacular, basically because the other team has played to defend and defend, and then defend some more.
I was hoping the Dutch would show some courage and play a good match, but it was more of the same thing.
(, Mon 12 Jul 2010, 9:58, Reply)
The Dutch should be ashamed of themselves for the way they tried to grind the Spanish down. I'm very glad your lot won
(, Mon 12 Jul 2010, 11:20, Reply)
Might have done something awful that's ruined a few good friendships, but I can't work out if they're just amused by it or they think less of me.
-twitches-
Yes you have been very good. Not only will I squeeze your breasts next time I see you, I will motorboat you.
(, Mon 12 Jul 2010, 8:55, Reply)
It actually happened a week ago, just that I've been away and about so I've missed the fallout.

which we must organise properly, by the way. It's the barefoot one.
(, Mon 12 Jul 2010, 8:58, Reply)
Or did that mean that was when you back to London?
(, Mon 12 Jul 2010, 9:03, Reply)
I'm sat in bed in the North RIGHT NOW.
(, Mon 12 Jul 2010, 9:03, Reply)
Sorry. I could do Wednesday evening, but I just won't be able to stay out that late since it's a school night.

I'll talk to Lovely Apples and see what she thinks.
(, Mon 12 Jul 2010, 10:12, Reply)
you can leave the naughty chair now, and have one of the special lollies.
I'm okay thanks, what did you get up to over the weekend?
(, Mon 12 Jul 2010, 8:55, Reply)
Very pleased for you :-)
(, Mon 12 Jul 2010, 8:58, Reply)
I was rather pleased at just how long I could swim for, and my family were rather unflatteringly amazed
(, Mon 12 Jul 2010, 9:23, Reply)
then swam back. And that was a minute after the first time I've been swimming in at least two or three years
(, Mon 12 Jul 2010, 9:35, Reply)
Though I must admit part of it wasn't proper swimming. There were stretches of floating and sculling involved
(, Mon 12 Jul 2010, 9:42, Reply)
so that's fair enough. So what's next? White water rafting? Lion taming? Hang gliding?
(, Mon 12 Jul 2010, 9:44, Reply)
is harder than in the pool as well.
impressive stuff.
(, Mon 12 Jul 2010, 9:55, Reply)
Actually I'm hoping to build my strength enough to start rowing again. I obviously won't be as good at it as I once was, but just being back doing it would be amazing
(, Mon 12 Jul 2010, 9:57, Reply)
so I commend you for your positive thinking and happier outlook.
In contrast, I'm in a right grump because I have Monday morning blues.

*slow claps*
Sadly I'm in a terrible mood today, had a massive fall out with my friend last night. She's decided to get back with her fella, who has (amongst other things) told her he was cheating on her for the last 6 months, has threatened to batter me, and basically just harass her non-stop. She then wonders why I get irritated when she says she wants to be with him again?
(, Mon 12 Jul 2010, 9:02, Reply)
Although I have to say I agree with you. Morning, by the way. Good weekend?
(, Mon 12 Jul 2010, 9:06, Reply)
but I'm fucking knackered. 2 hour gig on friday night until 1am. got to bed at gone half 3. gig on saturday, got to bed at gone 3. spent all day yesterday putting up plasterboard, before watching the world cup final, and then had a thoroughly shit nights sleep.
tempted to have a day off tomorrow if I don't sleep well tonight.
how was your run?
(, Mon 12 Jul 2010, 9:08, Reply)
Great experience. Was enjoying it so much that I forgot I was wearing a tutu. Thoroughly enjoyed it.
Unfortunately the only consistently successful drug I can recommend to help you sleep is one which I assume you already have in plentiful quantities. Don't reach for the Nytol, it's a waste of time and it'll play hell with your bowels
(, Mon 12 Jul 2010, 9:13, Reply)
that's my experience too. I've taken max strength Nytol capsules before and it put me out at 8pm and I woke up with a jolt at 3pm the next day.
not doing that again.
(, Mon 12 Jul 2010, 9:15, Reply)
They didn't help me sleep and I hate the idea of losing half of the next day, especially if it's a weekend. I can sleep at my desk
(, Mon 12 Jul 2010, 9:17, Reply)
I try and avoid smoking too much during the week, but it's better than not really sleeping.
(, Mon 12 Jul 2010, 9:25, Reply)
but also the bit about showing restraint during the week
(, Mon 12 Jul 2010, 9:29, Reply)
I've been having the worst sleep I've had in at least a year recently. absolutely no reason for it.
(, Mon 12 Jul 2010, 9:32, Reply)
I've slept well. Five hours a night at least every night, and an extra hour of just lying round reading etc. Then suddenly not only am I back at square one, but even worse
(, Mon 12 Jul 2010, 9:34, Reply)
I usually find that insomnia is stress-related
(, Mon 12 Jul 2010, 9:34, Reply)
generally speaking I'm stress-free and when I am stressed I deal with it reasonably well.
I don't like to call it insomnia, because I'm not sure it is, but it doesn't really seem to be linked to anything. I just lie there and my brain flicks from thought to thought really fast, not stressing about anything, but not switching off enough to sleep.
(, Mon 12 Jul 2010, 9:41, Reply)
no way I could make my mind go blank. So if I'm forced to go to bed, I just plan my writing
(, Mon 12 Jul 2010, 9:42, Reply)
but had completely and totally forgotten it by morning. :-(

but then you'll miss the fascinating details of what I've read recently
(, Mon 12 Jul 2010, 10:06, Reply)
about the Russians at the end of the Napoleonic war recruiting a group of mercenaries who turn out to be vampires.
(, Mon 12 Jul 2010, 10:09, Reply)
a Horatio Hornblower book, the first book of a different series by Stephen Donaldson and The Wasp Factory
(, Mon 12 Jul 2010, 10:11, Reply)
was a two part series. Seriously crap.
I was prepared to dislike the Wasp Factory but got drawn into it reluctantly. Twisted genius
(, Mon 12 Jul 2010, 10:35, Reply)
I've got those, you are right in your judgement.
Glad you didn't dislike the Wasp Factory Iain (M) Banks is my favourite author.
(, Mon 12 Jul 2010, 10:38, Reply)
Literally the weakest, feeblest most boring heroine ever, and incredibly sexist.
I might read some more Iain Banks after that. Was reluctantly impressed. Any recommendations?
(, Mon 12 Jul 2010, 10:40, Reply)
the other Banks stuff isn't as twisted as that one, but still good.
Espedair Street is my favourite, but that's partly because it is about a prog rock band.
I really like The Crow Road and Complicity, but if you want the weird stuff then The Bridge or Walking on Glass.
Even if you aren't a fan of sci fi I'd still consider reading Consider Phlebas. It's fucking brilliant.
(, Mon 12 Jul 2010, 10:43, Reply)
and of course I'm a fan of sci-fi. :P
Yeah Donaldson went back to this pre-19th century version of women. That they're sex hungry whores who will do anything to make it to the top on their backs, and that therefore the only women who are worth knowing are pure virgins who will save themselves for their wedding nights
(, Mon 12 Jul 2010, 10:48, Reply)
I'd temporarily forgotten.
I find Donaldson's stuff odd. The Gap Series are great, but I find it really hard to read the Thomas Covenant stuff, I find it drags, and Covenant himself is frustratingly dull and irritating. I know he is meant to be the way he is, but it doesn't mean I enjoy reading it.
Banks has some flawed characters, but generally speaking they are still likeable, or at least enjoyable to read about.
(, Mon 12 Jul 2010, 10:52, Reply)
I got the Wasp Factory as a free ebook. I was reading it at about 3 in the morning, when I got to the bit about the flies under the skullcap. Made me feel actually sick, which was an achievement.
Not a big Donaldson fan though Thomas Covenant was all right. How's Twelve?
(, Mon 12 Jul 2010, 10:55, Reply)
give Donaldson's Gap series a go if you haven't already. It's his best stuff in my opinion.
I've literally just started Twelve, so only read about 4 or 5 pages. It starts off with a folk tale about a town plagued by rats which was quite interesting.
(, Mon 12 Jul 2010, 10:57, Reply)
let me know if it is good. Oh yeah I finally read The TimeTraveller's Wife as well
(, Mon 12 Jul 2010, 11:01, Reply)
I haven't read that. how did you find it?
can't remember if my mrs liked it or not...
(, Mon 12 Jul 2010, 11:02, Reply)
I thought it was brilliantly constructed in terms of tying up ends and keeping the timeline in order. But the plot itself was cliched nonsense, and the explanation given for his timetravelling was that he had a genetic disorder which was so rubbish an idea.
Though the timetraveller did try having sex with himself
