What's your budget?

(, Thu 15 Jul 2010, 11:19, 2 replies, latest was 16 years ago)
£1200 plus £300 for software licenses

(, Thu 15 Jul 2010, 11:20, Reply)
That's a shit load,
are you going to be carrying it round a lot?
(, Thu 15 Jul 2010, 11:21, Reply)
not too much, just on the tube to & from work.

(, Thu 15 Jul 2010, 11:22, Reply)
I wouldn't normally say spend the whole budget
but it's work so fuck it,

awesome laptop.

A few months ago I flogged an identical spec laptop, except with a Core 2 Duo 2.1ghz for £340 =(
Major =(((((
(, Thu 15 Jul 2010, 11:26, Reply)
Well the i7s are more expensive as is the DDR3 ram they use.
But yeah that was cheap.
(, Thu 15 Jul 2010, 11:28, Reply)
Got £400, but a screen cracked in delivery and had to give him £60 as I had already spent the money.
royal cunt.
(, Thu 15 Jul 2010, 11:32, Reply)
That looks very appealing
Would probably up the RAM to 8gb I think as I use an ACT database a lot which seems to use a lot of memory.

Thanks for your help. Much appreciated.
(, Thu 15 Jul 2010, 11:28, Reply)
It's upgradable to 16gb
but as I mentioned above, DDR3 is expensive especially for laptops. But it's significantly quicker so you might not need as much as you think
You won't get much more than 4gb in a laptop off the shelf.
(, Thu 15 Jul 2010, 11:32, Reply)
thanks

I'm looking to buy a laptop
Pyschochomp, any ideas for a budget one?
(, Thu 15 Jul 2010, 11:22, Reply)
How much have you got to spend and what are you going to use it for?

(, Thu 15 Jul 2010, 11:25, Reply)
the budget is pretty small
I can rustle up about £400 but with the possibility of another £150 if my parents chip in.

Just a basic sort of one, DVDs, internet, standard programs. I'm not a gamer or anything, but the best bonus would be decent battery
(, Thu 15 Jul 2010, 11:27, Reply)
You can get a perfectly decent laptop for under £400

(, Thu 15 Jul 2010, 11:32, Reply)
I've been lucky enough not to have to return anything to them

albeit they are blokes.

(, Thu 15 Jul 2010, 11:30, Reply)
You'll be able to get a really good one for £400-£500
Check the Dell site for special offers and the 9 cell batteries. They last for ever (but weigh a ton!)

they have a lot of returns.

will do a little bit of research.

What sort of things do I need to look out for specswise that are good? The last time I bought a laptop was about 4 years back
(, Thu 15 Jul 2010, 11:33, Reply)
Something like..
An i3 processor and 4GB RAM, decent screen resolution and size and good battery life. TO be honest, its quite difficult to buy a really bad one these days
(, Thu 15 Jul 2010, 11:37, Reply)
^ This,
Make sure it's a recognised brand and you'll be generally alright, especially for what you'll use it for.
(, Thu 15 Jul 2010, 11:38, Reply)
I've had good experience with Acer stuff
as have my mates.
(, Thu 15 Jul 2010, 11:41, Reply)
I had a motherboard fail on a Dell about 6 years ago so wouldn't advocate buying one

(, Thu 15 Jul 2010, 11:36, Reply)
