My father is in England for the next ten or so days, he is giving a series of lectures in Oxford and thus has been flown over, put up and paid to spout bollocks about science and religion. I can't wait to see him.
So 'ner' to your holiday. I do hope you won't squander the entire time you have in Greece doing nothing but lazing about, and will endeavour to see some historical stuff.

We're hiring a car for a few days to get out and about.

I'm sure you'll enjoy it. A holiday is meant to be time away from your regular life, so switch on your mobile phone for only a few minutes a day to check for texts and voicemails. Don't check your e-mail and don't watch any television.
Escape for a fortnight. It's great.
My holiday's not for four weeks yet. I can't wait.

Or it 'breaks'. Or you find that Greece doesn't have any electricity for a fortnight, so your phone goes flat.

I doubt anything will seriously arise but I need to be at hand.

I echo this. Also Peter Tatchell, he seems a bit of a tosser.

Don't know how true that is, though.

He seems to go all out for publicity for his causes (Trying to arrest Robert Mugabe for example) and the public just think he's a twat, and his campaigns are not worthy of serious thought.

Great pals we are. We have a great deal in common, from sense of humour to an obsession with history, and a lot of shared ground musically.

my father and I have little in common but still get on but I think it would be more fun if we liked the same stuff.

and about Burning Spear, Hendrix, Dick Dale and all the old 50s rock'n'roll. He's also the reason why I've visited almost every castle on the British mainland. From when I was old enough to understand, he filled my head with King Arthur, Beowulf and Classical myths and legends - he is responsible for me being a dreamer who doesn't wish to engage with the modern world. And for being a massive pedant and intellectual snob.

He's three years older than me: I was 7 when 'Back in Black' came out but I heard it daily nevertheless.

he's getting old though. Recently did his first ever gig sat down and first ever when he didn't greet fans afterwards.

Still, DD has been rocking like a demon for 50 years - bound to take its toll. I rate his gig amongst the best I've ever seen.

The intensity of the performance shamed musicians a third of his age. Stupendous.
