WOO!
My father is in England for the next ten or so days, he is giving a series of lectures in Oxford and thus has been flown over, put up and paid to spout bollocks about science and religion. I can't wait to see him.

So 'ner' to your holiday. I do hope you won't squander the entire time you have in Greece doing nothing but lazing about, and will endeavour to see some historical stuff.

Of course. I'm not a sun worshipper.
We're hiring a car for a few days to get out and about.

Good
I'm sure you'll enjoy it. A holiday is meant to be time away from your regular life, so switch on your mobile phone for only a few minutes a day to check for texts and voicemails. Don't check your e-mail and don't watch any television.

Escape for a fortnight. It's great.

My holiday's not for four weeks yet. I can't wait.

I have to leave my mobile on and with me in case of problems at work : (

(, Thu 29 Jul 2010, 8:48, Reply)
Not if you 'lose' it
Or it 'breaks'. Or you find that Greece doesn't have any electricity for a fortnight, so your phone goes flat.
(, Thu 29 Jul 2010, 8:50, Reply)
Trust me, the easier problems are solved while I'm away, the less crap I have to come back too.
I doubt anything will seriously arise but I need to be at hand.
(, Thu 29 Jul 2010, 8:52, Reply)
You could always not come back!

(, Thu 29 Jul 2010, 8:52, Reply)
Believe me, I've thought about it.

Where does your dad usually live that you can't see him?

(, Thu 29 Jul 2010, 8:45, Reply)
Broadmoor

(, Thu 29 Jul 2010, 8:56, Reply)
Haha!
He's in there for plaigiarizing several colleagues in his last paper.
(, Thu 29 Jul 2010, 9:01, Reply)
And for calling Richard Dawkins a cunt.

(, Thu 29 Jul 2010, 9:03, Reply)
He is a cunt though.
I echo this. Also Peter Tatchell, he seems a bit of a tosser.
(, Thu 29 Jul 2010, 9:07, Reply)
Peter Tatchell, has always been a shouty twat.

(, Thu 29 Jul 2010, 9:11, Reply)
I also heard he's 'a bit of a bender'.
Don't know how true that is, though.
(, Thu 29 Jul 2010, 9:14, Reply)
Well, I wasn't going to mention that. (it might upset Darth)
He seems to go all out for publicity for his causes (Trying to arrest Robert Mugabe for example) and the public just think he's a twat, and his campaigns are not worthy of serious thought.

Willamsburg, Virginia, in the good ole US of A.

(, Thu 29 Jul 2010, 9:03, Reply)
wow, that's a good long way away then!

(, Thu 29 Jul 2010, 9:05, Reply)
Indeed so.
I've not seen him for fucking ages.
(, Thu 29 Jul 2010, 9:06, Reply)
You get on okay with him then?

(, Thu 29 Jul 2010, 9:07, Reply)
God yes.
Great pals we are. We have a great deal in common, from sense of humour to an obsession with history, and a lot of shared ground musically.
(, Thu 29 Jul 2010, 9:13, Reply)
I don't see my dad as often as I should really and he only lives in Cumbria.

(, Thu 29 Jul 2010, 9:21, Reply)
thats cool
my father and I have little in common but still get on but I think it would be more fun if we liked the same stuff.
(, Thu 29 Jul 2010, 9:22, Reply)
He taught me about Le Petomane
and about Burning Spear, Hendrix, Dick Dale and all the old 50s rock'n'roll. He's also the reason why I've visited almost every castle on the British mainland. From when I was old enough to understand, he filled my head with King Arthur, Beowulf and Classical myths and legends - he is responsible for me being a dreamer who doesn't wish to engage with the modern world. And for being a massive pedant and intellectual snob.
(, Thu 29 Jul 2010, 9:28, Reply)
Whose fault is it that you like AC/DC?

(, Thu 29 Jul 2010, 9:36, Reply)
My brother's. Ditto Motorhead.
He's three years older than me: I was 7 when 'Back in Black' came out but I heard it daily nevertheless.
(, Thu 29 Jul 2010, 9:38, Reply)
That's actually quite a good excuse
Seeing as how it's my excuse for liking Bon Jovi
(, Thu 29 Jul 2010, 9:41, Reply)
Apparently Dick Dale is ill
this is not good news
(, Thu 29 Jul 2010, 9:41, Reply)
He's survived arse cancer a few times already.
That doesn't sound good at all. Glad I got to see him when I did (thank you again).
(, Thu 29 Jul 2010, 9:43, Reply)
yeah
he's getting old though. Recently did his first ever gig sat down and first ever when he didn't greet fans afterwards.
(, Thu 29 Jul 2010, 9:46, Reply)
like BB King.
Still, DD has been rocking like a demon for 50 years - bound to take its toll. I rate his gig amongst the best I've ever seen.
(, Thu 29 Jul 2010, 9:52, Reply)
I'm not surprised
the man is a complete legend
(, Thu 29 Jul 2010, 9:58, Reply)
The aggression in his playing was just incredible.
The intensity of the performance shamed musicians a third of his age. Stupendous.
(, Thu 29 Jul 2010, 10:01, Reply)
Mine taught me golf.
But he did take to me to Queen, Wembleyu 86 as my first concert and then to Highbury for my fifth birthday.

Am welling up!!!!!!!
