isn't really that high, because they let so many students get in now. It used to be that only the top few % of school leavers went to university to pursue an academic or professional career, but now every man and his dog seems to get a degree in something or other.
I don't agree with this idea. I fully support the notion that everyone is entitled to the best possible education, but I don't think that means lots of people should go to university. Many of those who leave higher education with a degree in media studies or whatever might well have been far better suited to an alternative career path.
Take the trades, for example. There's money to be made there, and it's skilled work. Apart from the perceived benefit of having a degree, who's going to care that you didn't go to university if you're making a better living from being a joiner that you would from working in McDonald's with your degree in Greek Foreign Policy*?
* may not be a degree which is offered at most universities

The following are true;
Take That are still immensely popular
Nottingham Forest have failed to win any of their first three games this season, all against inferior opposition
A lot of people think Twilight is a good thing
and none of them are remotely funny

This might make you laugh, Labs - this year, InFest wristband holders will be granted use of the on-campus gym at a discounted rate. You know the sort of people that go to InFest - what was the thinking behind that?

You'll likely get a couple of pilled-up guys on them though.

I'm probably going to spend more on taxis than on drugs that weekend*
I can't see the EDL demonstration, in a city with an extremely militant Muslim community, being anything other than a bloodbath. But I have to wonder what they'll make of goths. Theoretically the EDL are in favour of white people and goths are as white as they come.

is certainly something I thoroughly approve of.

I was actually giggling with schadenfreudic glee. It could only have been better if the team had been gunned down by South African gangsters on their way to the airport.

Suddenly I'm reminded of that scene in Human Traffic where the doctor is claiming that ecstasy will prevent you from getting a stiffy, and John Simm just sort of looks a bit upset. Watched that film recently. It has not aged well.

You can look forward to the same experience once the government stops raising the age of retirement just as you've nearly reached it. Although once you are a gentleman of leisure, you'll probably still spend all your time insulting randoms online

PS you've misspelled 'retarded'

I'm not saying at was, it's a genuine query.

The current government jumped on it quicker than Vipros on a croissant though. Does that make it Labour's fault for having the idea or the Tories' for having none of their own?

if I am honest I resent paying for the pensions of a bunch of oiks who had their entire working loves to provide for themselves in retirement but failed to do so. In the good old days the poor did at least have the good manners to die young.

Disclaimer: yes I know what you mean, thanks to the BBC's declining output in the 80's repeats of classic comedy were commonplace, so we don't need to be as old as you to have seen The Breakfast Dance
