Anyone want muse tickets
For Manchester, LCCC this sat? £60 the pair? Make me an offer? Call me a cunt whatever. Gaz moi.
(, Thu 2 Sep 2010, 13:28, 133 replies, latest was 16 years ago)
I would buy them but I'm hanging myself from the landing that day.

Stick them on Scarlet Mist
You'll probably get a fair price for them too.

I had this conversation with a guy on saturday at a party
I said I saw them at glastonbury, I wasn't a big fan but I thought they put on a good show and I enjoyed it.

He started seething with rage, weirdo.

They don't offend me.
Just bore me.

he's a freak as well
and they come from a really shit place.

I saw them live at the Eden Project which was a great gig, but since then all their stuff has been the same.

they had a documentary about them just before the Teignmouth gig. They came across as complete wankers and were saying stuff that was blatantly made up after the fact pretentious bullshit.

My Classic gave up the ghost
So I have an ancient nano which has the benefit of having stuff I mostly want to listen to but wouldn't fit my amazing epic playlist from my old one, if it had been saved :(
(, Thu 2 Sep 2010, 14:27, Reply)
I generally like my shuffle
because if I can choose what to listen to it ends up being the same stuff all the time, whereas the shuffle makes me listen to everything.

Only downside is the shit that occasionally gets on there. I need to rate my music collection in itunes really.
(, Thu 2 Sep 2010, 14:28, Reply)
I need to edit my music, I've reached full capacity
Something tells me I should delete Marina and the Diamonds as she's the worse thing ever, but I quite like a couple of her songs. Ditto Crystal Castles.

Saw them at Wembley a couple of years ago.
They were okay (6/10). The support was Biffy Clyro who were good and My Chemical Romance who should be called My Chemical Toilet.
(, Thu 2 Sep 2010, 14:00, Reply)
My Chemical Romance make me want to break faces.
Their faces to be exact, and the faces of their adoring fans.

I once watched a countdown of the "Top 50 hell raisers of rock" or something, presented by them. They put themselves second the little shits. Oh look at me! I can dye my hair so I look like a cancer patient, I'm soooooo bad ass!

Two girls I was friends with in college were obsessed.
Oblivious to my protests of not giving a shit, they insisted on telling me every bit of gossip and fanfiction they'd read on livejournal. Very nearly didn't save their lives because every time they brought up MCR, I wanted to beat them to death with my folder.
(, Thu 2 Sep 2010, 14:21, Reply)
I didn't mind their early stuff
But then my sister pointed out that you can hear him gasp for breath before he sings each line, and now I can't listen to any of it without hearing him struggling for air...

I just listened to Girl from Mars by Ash. What do you think of that huh?

I have just lost any and all faith I ever had in you.

(, Thu 2 Sep 2010, 14:06, Reply)

it has occurred to me in the past that there is no reason for Ash to have been popular.

also, on review, most of the Foo Fighters' stuff is boring as fuck.
(, Thu 2 Sep 2010, 14:08, Reply)

I bought their greatest hits convinced that I loved Ash. I very quickly realised they were gash. Although 'Candy' is still brilliant.
(, Thu 2 Sep 2010, 14:09, Reply)
they did a good version of the Star Wars Cantina music

(, Thu 2 Sep 2010, 14:10, Reply)

B side on the girl from mars single if I remember right

(, Thu 2 Sep 2010, 14:16, Reply)
'Candy'
elevated Ash from a status of "band I can't be arsed with" to "band who really get right up my fucking nose"

And sullied a perfectly good Scott Walker recording.
(, Thu 2 Sep 2010, 14:12, Reply)
I've never heard of them. Should I be grateful?

(, Thu 2 Sep 2010, 14:17, Reply)
Ash?
they're mediocre. A bit like Feeder.
(, Thu 2 Sep 2010, 14:18, Reply)
I know OF Feeder, but I don't know anything by them.

(, Thu 2 Sep 2010, 14:22, Reply)
they started off ok and got steadily worse after they got big.
best stuff they did was instrumental tracks for one of the Gran Turismo games

yeah massively average band late 90's early millenium.

(, Thu 2 Sep 2010, 14:19, Reply)
"Average" really is the right word.
Also "feeble", "weak" or "wet." Like a bunch of kids desperately trying to "rock*" and just sounding a bit pathetic.

*Whatever the fuck that means, the way MTV go on about it you'd think there was a dictionary definition...
(, Thu 2 Sep 2010, 14:21, Reply)
I just looked them up.
The lead singer looks like a guy I had a fling with a while ago.
(, Thu 2 Sep 2010, 14:24, Reply)
the singer from my band used to know him
as my mate's cousins lived down the road from him.

exciting stuff eh?
(, Thu 2 Sep 2010, 14:26, Reply)
Thrilling!
They sound utterly shit though, I only got about 30seconds into Candy before I gave up.
(, Thu 2 Sep 2010, 14:27, Reply)
they're just bland
but had some wild reputation for a bit for some reason.
(, Thu 2 Sep 2010, 14:29, Reply)
Their Wiki page classes them as Grunge.
That made me do an ANGRYFACE, after hearing Candy.
(, Thu 2 Sep 2010, 14:30, Reply)
they are not grunge
pop-rock at most
(, Thu 2 Sep 2010, 14:31, Reply)
Bland, mediocre, radio-friendly pop with electric guitars
No edge, no real flavour to their music, and yet they seem to be hugely popular.

The Carling of popular music, if you will.
(, Thu 2 Sep 2010, 14:34, Reply)
good summary

(, Thu 2 Sep 2010, 14:36, Reply)
As a general rule
I don't like stuff that is classed as popular. But not BECAUSE it's classed as popular, just because I have far better taste than the general public.
So that makes sense.
(, Thu 2 Sep 2010, 14:36, Reply)
Quite
Being popular doesn't mean it's bad by default, it's just the public have a phenomenal tendency to be WRONG.

I agree, only the one song I like.

(, Thu 2 Sep 2010, 14:18, Reply)
Oh, that's okay, I thought you'd done it by choice.
There is something unrelentingly feeble about every Ash song I've ever heard.

I do own two Foo Fighters albums, but there's a good reason they've done nothing but gather dust for the last, ooh, eight or nine years now?
(, Thu 2 Sep 2010, 14:11, Reply)
Who'd have thought a popular Irish rock/pop act could be shit, eh?
Certainly had ME surprised, I can tell you.
(, Thu 2 Sep 2010, 14:13, Reply)
Especially given what musical zeniths had been so fearlessly scaled by such great Irish bands as...um...
U2 and Dexy's Midnight Runners...
(, Thu 2 Sep 2010, 14:15, Reply)
Precisely.
I have to say that most of Thin Lizzy's output was terrible as well. I wish this were not so.

I am reminded of a superb bit of standup (from whom I cannot recall):

'Tonight there's going to be a jailbreak' sang Phil Lynott of Thin Lizzy, 'somewhere in this town'.

Err, that'd be at the jail, Phil.'
(, Thu 2 Sep 2010, 14:22, Reply)
it is a shame
but I agree.

He was good in War of the Worlds though.
(, Thu 2 Sep 2010, 14:23, Reply)
Best tune by a country mile:
'Johnny The Fox meets Jimmy the Weed'

If you don't know it, you fucking should.
(, Thu 2 Sep 2010, 14:26, Reply)
Haha, I do love that one. Can't remember for the life of me who it was though.
Thin Lizzy, there's another one I could never understand the appeal of. They have slighted me with Boys are Back in Town as every time I hear that riff I hope against hope it might be Sabbath's Never Say Die and am disappointed. (A bit like hearing that Queen song and hoping it will be Vanilla Ice)

That and my friend reports seeing Gary Moore and BB King playing in concert, during which the arrogant Oirish bellend had the gall to solo over the blues legend himself.
(, Thu 2 Sep 2010, 14:26, Reply)

Nuclear Attack is a brilliant song though and much as I hate to admit it, Parisienne Walkways is a nice bit of guitar.

Dexy's weren't irish were they?
(, Thu 2 Sep 2010, 14:22, Reply)
I think Kevin Rowland had Irish heritage.
Their first single (Dance Stance) was aimed to counter the "Irish are thick" attitude.
(, Thu 2 Sep 2010, 14:47, Reply)
Anyone who doesn't like There, There My Dear by Dexys is quite mad.

(, Thu 2 Sep 2010, 14:23, Reply)
I only like 'Geno'.
Kevin Rowland's yelpy voice and faux-gyppo stylings make my fucking teeth itch.
(, Thu 2 Sep 2010, 14:32, Reply)
Oh don't get me started on yelpy voices
They're all doing it these days. That White Stripes bloke who's clearly only let his sister play drums because he's bonking her does that and it makes my nasal hair bristle with indignation.
(, Thu 2 Sep 2010, 14:42, Reply)
When the brass section got pissed off with/dumped by Kevin Rowland they formed The Bureau
who I happened to go an see, I thought that they were fantastic. THe singer who, if I remember correctly, was called Archie Brown was great singing soul in a style reminiscent of Steve Marriott. He was the man who should have had Mick Hucknall's success. The band had one single "Let Him Have It" that got some radio play but never really took off. I've no idea what happened to Archie but I'm going now into the great wide world of the internet to find out, and to lsiten to "Let Him Have It" for the first time in about 25 years. I really hope it isn't actually shit.

I may be some time.
(, Thu 2 Sep 2010, 14:43, Reply)
the first couple of Foos albums had some merit
but even the best tracks off those have been overplayed to the point of nauseation. (yeah that's a word)
(, Thu 2 Sep 2010, 14:16, Reply)
You could have just said "nausea."
But yeah, there are a few tracks I'd revisit on the first album, maybe one or two off Nothing Left to Lose. I think I offended a lot of die-hard fans by not being impressed by Colour, nor hailing Monkey Wrench as "OMG bestest song evar!!1!1"
(, Thu 2 Sep 2010, 14:20, Reply)
monkey wrench isn't even the best song on that album
It's one I like, but has been over played

that wouldn't have quite done it. I wanted to get across that it made me feel nauseated
