I used to have this theory that in our image-obsessed age,
anyone who made it as a success in the field of entertainment despite being minging must be good - Cheryl Cole didn't get the level of fame she has now because she has the best voice in Girls Aloud, for example. I think this was born of a stoned affection for one of KT Tunstall's earlier songs. Then someone pointed out that Jo Brand is nowhere near funny enough to be famous and my theory vanished like God when someone showed him a Babel fish
