Was cooked jerk chicken for my supper, wrapped up warm and went for a walk around the old docks, then had a large Laphroaig in the Prospect of Whitby (v famous old pub, an inn's been on the site since the early 1500s: big pirate connections, and a hangman's noose out the back).
Nice end to a great weekend. The only downer was not seeing my daughter.

... I was thinking along the lines of a pie made with a sweet guiness gravy with mushrooms and shortcrust.... but the trouble is that I don't want to mask the flavours at all, so maybe a simple saute with a port reduction and mustardy mashed potatoes?

I think you need either the reduced port or guiness to give a counterpoint to the gameiness.
