Suggestions gladly welcome
I was leaning towards the X10, but it was mentioned on this site that it was a bad phone because it didn't have 'pinch zoom'. Perhaps an HTC wildfire? An iphone is just too big.

X10 is way bigger than the iPhone.
the iPhone really isn't too big, for me it's the perfect size, not to small to lose or make everything fiddly... but not to big to not fit in my pockets.

Your best bet is to walk into somewhere like CarPhoneWearhouse, let them sell you the schpiel and show you all the features... then walk out telling them you'll think about it, and look around for a good deal.
