"Are you prejudiced?" asks StapMyVitals. Have you been a victim of prejudice? Are you a columnist for a popular daily newspaper? Don't bang on about how you never judge people on first impressions - no-one will believe you.

When needing to choose who was 'on' you would count people out with this little ditty
Eenie-meenie
Minie-mo,
Catch a nigger by the toe,
If he squeals
Let him go,
Eenie-meenie
Minie-mo
A long time ago..thankfully.

Don't remember it having 'nigger' in it though, i suspect we must have had a changed version by the time we were singing it!

Hm, it was always "tiger" for us. However, I'm probably a bit younger. Weird how I guess everyone changed it to different animals in different areas, haha.

I heard her kids singing it but they sang:
"Catch a *pause* by his toe"
Seeta grinned at me, I think she prefered the full version.

I have a recurring memory of a group of kids on Blue Peter singing Boney M's 'Brown girl in the ring' all white stood in a ring with a little black girl in the middle.

In school we always said catch a tiger by the toe, guess your friends were racists to teach it to you that way?
(, Fri 2 Apr 2010, 21:21, closed)
getting taught it. It was just there, like 'rock a bye baby'..It was a rhyme we all knew. So we used it. I think 6 year olds just say things without thinking what the words mean.

I heard the kids I teach singing it the other day and they didn't say nigger.
I asked them to sing it again, pretending that I didn't know the rhyme, but I couldn't understand what they were saying in the place of nigger.
