Freddy Woo writes, "My school bully just friended me on Facebook!" No doubt he pokes him, and then demands his lunch money.
Personally, last month a scantily clad young woman confused me with her fiance, with whom I share a first and last name. I'm still not sure she's noticed, but she's going to be mortified when she does.
What's the biggest mistake you've made using a social networking site?

Mike woz ere has prompted this - it's not directed at him or anyone in particular. But...
*deep breath*
There's been a number of stories here about people posting photos of themselves from theme parks/ status updates reporting hangovers/ whatever else along those lines... on facebook while they were supposedly off sick.
And this makes me wonder: just how thick do you have to be to do that?

you just answered your own question.
Me, if I take a day off work due to hangover or a desire to have some down time, I quietly go somewhere that I know I won't be found out and I say nothing to anyone else about it.
Announcing to the world that you're home sick with a hangover is about as twattish as you can get.
No offense to those who've done so, but... come on!

However, being caught during a sickie belming at a passing camera smacks of a level of carelessness not befitting a professional.

...didn't one guy throw a sickie, then pop up on that night's episode of Who Wants To Be A Millionaire, back when it was broadcast live?

Is the answer 'very, very thick indeed'?
Ahem *sotto voce* thick enough to enjoy a theme park as an adult.

Why do you think there are height restrictions on all the best rides?....

Updated their facebook status to "Is feeling ill" when throwing a sickie out of paranoia?

"Johab is shitting through the eye of a needle" even when I'm not actually ill, and not throwing a sickie. I once put "Johab is massively ill because he swallowed a spike" a la Nathan Barley, but only a handful got it and all that happened was a wall full of "Are you ok?" messages. Bah.

I haven't thrown a proper sicky since being in this job, but if I did, I certainly wouldn't risk being caught by posting on FB! I'd stay at home, with the curtains drawn, playing offline computer games ;)

Way back I had a colleague who threw a long-term sickie. She was discovered when her boss, who like the odd flutter on the gee-gees went to the bookie at lunchtime.
To find her working behind the counter.
She was sacked.
