Tightwads
There's saving money, and there's being tight: saving money at the expense of other people, or simply for the miserly hell of it.
Tell us about measures that go beyond simple belt tightening into the realms of Mr Scrooge.

Me
Rather than spend frankly excessive amounts of cash on fancy dress items for nights out at uni, I improvise - with binbags.
Halloween? Binbag with arm holes poked in it = binbag monster.
'P' themed party? As above, with additional carrier bag stuck to the front = penguin.
'Bad Taste' evening? As Halloween, except tell everyone you're one of Madeline's arms.
'Kinky' party? Binbag again, but tape it up a bit more tightly, and claim to be a gimp.
Works every time, though using a clean bag is recommended.

I might steal your ideas. I fucking hate fancy dress. "You're invited to my party - but only if you spend a considerable amount of your valuable time and money finding and buying a costume according to some stupid theme I have chosen because I am so wacky and KERRAZEE, only to throw it in a cupboard afterwards and leave it gathering dust for all eternity!"
Shove your party up your arse then.
Miserable bitch? Me?

Girls at work
will take any opportunity to dress up. Hallowe'en this Friday: ooh, let's dress up! Why? Why??? You're in your 20s FFS. They've all spent about thirty or forty quid each on hiring a costume. When asked if I wanted to join in I said, grumpily, "No thanks. I'm not a girl. Or 9..."
And I'm taking the day off because my girlfriend buggers off to work in the States and I'm off walking.

Speaking of Hallowe'en
Myself and a few mates will be going to Dundee (no, don't laugh) this weekend at least in part for this reason.
We don't dress up - that would be childish - but almost every attractive female this side of 40 does. Nurses, schoolies, dominatrixes, you name it. Crumbs.
*rubs (own) thighs suggestively*

Bollocks is it childish
It's fun, as long as it's only once or twice a year.

I once took a load od plastic carrier bags to an outdoor rave,
and sold them for 50p each cos i knew it was going to piss down. i reasoned that 50p was a small price to pay for somewhere half dry to sit when you were caked. sold the lot, not a bad price for 1989/90.

P themed parties
I'd put on an old suit and a monocole, and come as a 'Ponce'.

For 'N' themed parties
did you dress up in Lycra with platforms and lots of shiny glittery stuff and go as a Nonce?

I have never understood the logic of
Dressing up as a nurse or a dominatrix to go to a hallowe'en party. If you're going to do it, do it properly. When I go to my uni hallowe'en party, it will be as something actually scary...
