Got a great tip? Share it with us. You know, stuff like "Prevent sneezing by pressing you index finger firmly between your nose and your upper lip."

Think driving with just your front fog lights on is cool?
The three points on your driving licence for 'driving at night without headlights' isn't cool at all.

I got yanked the halloween before last
because I'd forgot to put my headlights on. Brightly lit street, car had just broken down and was in a bit of a kerfuffle wondering if it would make it home and I just didn't notice they weren't on.

Unfortunately, I was on my way home from the 1st annual Glasgow Zombie Walk, and I was in full zombie regalia (minus the contact lenses of course, luckily). The copper just said "Hello sir do you realise you've not got your........................... take the keys out and step out the car please, sir."

He was convinced I was drunk and breathalised me on the spot, basically pointing out what would happen when it turned out I was pissed, shouted at me for trying to hold the breathaliser myself and stood like a smug twat waiting for an easy collar.

I got off with it when it turned out I was sober as a judge. He didn't look pleased at all.

I've never understood the reason for doing this.
Any evening I go for a drive I can bet on seeing at least 5 or 6 people doing this - on dark country roads no less.

Fog lights aren't supposed to light up the road ahead, just the sides of the road as they are underneath the fog which generally starts a foot or so off the ground.

I've experimented a couple of times just using the fog lights on my car and you may as well not have any lights at all.

in thick fog
Out in the country, regular headlights create such a glare and full beam is just hopeless. For me, front spots and sidelights are best

Exactly
That's the only time they're any use. In thick fog (and it's got to be fairly thick at that).

It's similar to rear high-intensity lights. Once visibility is clear for more than 100 yards or so, they aren't much use to anyone behine you, and you should certainly turn them off in close, slow moving traffic.

(Although if someone behind me is using their front fog lights when it's clear, I assume they think it's foggy and may just turn my rear fog lights on until they get the message)

Like those twats who use their parking lights when driving in rain/dim light. Waste of time. No idea why they do it...trying to save power or something you dumb muppets?
