Get your change counted without paying commission
If you want to know how much yer shrapnel is worth, don't go to one of those change counting machines in supermarkets; they take a commission.

Instead, use the self service machines (Tesco's definitely works) to buy some insignificant item* (e.g. a doughnut for 15p) and pile in all your change. Not only will you get your change counted quickly, you get a doughnut and any extra change is given back in reasonable coinage!

*If you're too stingy to buy anything, just cancel the purchase at the last minute, you dole scum you

Once you have put the amount which was needed (E.g. 15p for the Donut) into the machine, it would then automatically cash off?

So if the donut is 15p, if you put a 20p coin in, the machine would then cash off giving you a receipt and 5p chance?

Quite right!
You have to shouvel your change PDQ into the machine as it takes a few seconds to count it up. So you can over-pay it and it will usually give back any change in propper coins.

Or you could buy something more expensive than a 15p doughnut. Like a cake. Everybody likes cake.

I think the point is
that it takes FUCKING AGES to count a load of mixed change.

I had a massive jar of pennys, tuppences and five pees a few years ago and it took 2 HOURS to count it all and bag it up - and even then I'd made a few errors.

Still £56 for 3 hours work not too bad really!
