after
many, many years of owning and using windows/PC's, I've finally bitten the bullet and bought a shiny mac.

I've used it for a good 10 minutes now and its utter shit. I'm taking it back. I dont really like 'dumbed down' things, I'm very tech savvy really, and prefer to feel like I'm using a professional tool. Mac's are obviously good for music and movies and stuff, but I work in the real world, and a Mac just doesnt cut it.

I really like my mac - it's great for what I do, which is media publishing and ad sales.
It's a bit slow and clunky as it's 2 years old, but it's nice and simple, and great for what I need.

I'm sure a PC would be equally good, but I find them a bit complicated and clunky. Once you're used to a Mac, I think you're sold on it.

And there's your problem..
2 years old and 'It's a bit slow and clunky'

Let me be the first....
Liiiiiiiinux. I'm currently on Linux Mint after changing from the also lovely Ubuntu. Free, SO FAAAAAAAAAAST, lovely.

Let me also say though, for those who say that Linux and Mac users are as bad as each other, that I was a huge fan of Windows XP. I even loved the way it looked like a sideways silly face. Also that I have tried a Mac, so given it a go, and hated every minute of it.

I love it when poor people state "free" as being a huge benefit
Free to me means, untested, under developed, over complicated crap...Which just about sums all Linux versions up.

Are you still trolling? Or are you just as clueless about software as you are about management?
Linux is the default for high availability systems, is becoming the dominant OS for anything above the lowest tier of embedded systems, and has a professional user base larger than any other OS.

Trolling
but anyway...my suggestion of "break the rules get fired" is a perfectly valid way to run a successful business.
(, Fri 20 May 2011, 15:31, closed)
Name one.

(, Fri 20 May 2011, 15:33, closed)
One what?

(, Fri 20 May 2011, 15:34, closed)
Software business that has been successful using that sort of cackhanded management.

Microsoft
If you fail to follow the standards that you are allowed you are warned then sacked if you don't tow the line.

Can you name a successful company that allows it's staff free reign to do what they want then?

Utter balls.
And you might find there is a tiny bit of grey between mindless disciplinarians and complete anarchy.

Are you still learning about Hitler at school by any chance?
(, Fri 20 May 2011, 16:01, closed)
Still at school? I think you meant to mention Hitler instead.

(, Fri 20 May 2011, 16:22, closed)
Sorry. Quite right.
I'll fix it.

we have two Macs because Logic Studio is about a tenth of the cost of Pro Tools on the PC
so yes, for music it is worth it, but I do all my 'real world' work on PC. Every time I try to do anything on a Mac I get lost and I don't have all the keyboard shortcuts to hand.
(, Fri 20 May 2011, 14:57, closed)
Try
Ardour. I struggled for years with Cubase et al... then pro-tools, and I was nearly at the point of giving up when I discovered Ardour.

Its harder than i thought
to troll mac-ites. Stop being reasonable.
(, Fri 20 May 2011, 15:03, closed)
The problem is that unless you're manipulating enormous graphic files, creating music or editing videos
a PC is genuinely much better than a Mac every time

it's hard to troll people when they know you're right
(, Fri 20 May 2011, 16:32, closed)
Always remember
A PC is David Mitchell and a Mac is Robert Webb.

That doesn't help, does it? Sorry.
