Ok shopping bitches.
I have a load of old spare 40GB IDE drives. Besides building an el-cheapo PC to put them in, are there any cheap external IDE RAID boxes out there?
Alternatively, why aren't you out in the sunshine?

If I had a time machine, I'd go back and kill the man that started the "let's put blue LEDs in everything" trend.

I'll join you
that entire case modding thing should be left to the geeks who go to shows and take their towers with them. Poeople who mod cases and they are the only people to see them need help.

It's just infruriating to discover that whatever I buy, somewhere, it will have an overly bright blue LED.

just buy yourself a cheap 1TB drive
it will be cheaper than any raid device you could find for IDE discs,
and 25 times the capacity.

if you shove them all into a Linux box, can it mount them all as a single logical drive?

I suggest you knock nails through the drive platters before you throw them away though, stops the police recovering your stash of child pornography

They are not raided
But just set the backup to do the same thing to each disc

That would involve having at least 5 of those boxes.
The best I found so far is an external RAID box that holds 2 drives. Might go for those.
