does it need to be regulated?
You can get mains frequency transformers on Maplin or RS that could provide a reasonable unregulated AC supply. Stick a rectifier and filter on that and you're away.

it's an adaptor for a gaming pheripheral. a logitech steering wheel i picked up in a market for a fiver, it works, but needs the extra adaptor for the force feedback to work.
