Glad the section 21 law enabling retaliatory eviction is up for discussion and possibly revision
Have reported problems with my electrics a few times but daren't pursue it any more for fear of being given the push, you'd think the landlord would be more concerned that his house could burn down at any moment

smyls

Yeah, I'm trying to get the others to join me in withholding the rent.
It's fucking stupid that a landlord can basically charge you for shod and legally get away with it. Why do they have such an easy time of it? Landlord isn't even a proper job. Sure, occasionally the heater breaks but you get in a professional in to fix it. They stills get to squeeze us for more cash than they reasonably deserve.

Mine pleads poverty whenever I ask him to do something because supposedly all the rent goes on the mortgage so none left over to keep the place fit for habitation.

If that's true, there's no way he would ever evict you.
Even if you slept with his daughter and ran over his dog.

It's the other way round :(

(, Thu 25 Sep 2014, 23:06, archived)
makes you wonder why they even bother, really

It's not as if being a Landlord sounds cool.
'Hi, I'm Dolphinwhipperer. I'm a landlord.'
(, Thu 25 Sep 2014, 22:38, archived)
and yet when i put on my apron and falsies and announce that I'm a landlady I'm immediately the centre of attention
misandry gone mad

You remind me of a guy who used to hang round here.
You wouldn't have got on.
(, Thu 25 Sep 2014, 22:52, archived)
sounds sexy and charming

I dunno
I think the fear of retaliatory eviction is a bit irrational. The costs and risks involved in replacing a good tenant are quite big - especially compared to maintenance which would need doing whatever.

Having said that there are a lot of irrational people and cunts in the world.

I live in London
The Cuntropolis
(, Thu 25 Sep 2014, 22:37, archived)
my advice to you
is to move to somewhere less shit
(, Thu 25 Sep 2014, 22:38, archived)
But I'm hoping that I can trick the cunts into giving me money.
Doing something bearable.

I'm a landlord in London.
And I'm a cunt.

But, new tenancy: finders fee of 10% of total rent for the duration of the AST: £2K
Flat empty for a about month between tenancies: £1.5K

That's got to be some pretty expensive repairs.
(, Thu 25 Sep 2014, 22:50, archived)
Beats me.
So, is it worthwhile being a Landlord? Does it go down well at parties?
(, Thu 25 Sep 2014, 22:55, archived)
you must go to some dreadful parties
do you break the ice with mortgage rates and the traffic on the ring road?
(, Thu 25 Sep 2014, 23:01, archived)
Yes. All that.

(, Thu 25 Sep 2014, 23:03, archived)
I think it's more hassle than its worth (to be a good landlord and do what you're supposed to, it's probably pretty easy if you ignore your tenants).
Not really my choice - the other owner doesn't want to sell yet. Hopefully we will soon.
(, Thu 25 Sep 2014, 23:02, archived)
don't let marshmallow hear that
property is the sexiest thing like ever
(, Thu 25 Sep 2014, 23:07, archived)
I pay just under 5% including insurance to cover lack of tenants for up to six months
not saying you're a shit capitalist or owt but ... you know ... you are
(, Thu 25 Sep 2014, 22:57, archived)
You're a landlord too?
God, it's all making sense now. The cunt's hit the fan.
(, Thu 25 Sep 2014, 22:59, archived)
You're probably right.
It was our first time at it, we didn't really know what we were doing and went with a big high street name.
(, Thu 25 Sep 2014, 23:16, archived)
(Don't tell him he's right. Just don't)

(, Thu 25 Sep 2014, 23:19, archived)
He wouldn't do the maintenance though, he'd just get another tenant in who was unaware of the problems.
The estate agent is supposed to intervene on our behalf but they couldn't give a shit, the faster turnover the better as far as they're concerned. Every time there's a change of tenant the agent gets paid various fees for 'checking in', 'checking out', 'inventory' and assorted other bullshit, multiples of fifty quid for what amounts to less than five minutes work for them as it's all pre-printed forms. They'd change who rents their houses every single month if they could.
(, Thu 25 Sep 2014, 22:41, archived)
Also, waaaaaaaaahhh

(, Thu 25 Sep 2014, 22:45, archived)

Waaaaaaaaaaaahh
