I've been following Russell Brand's trial
it's quite grim. I've never heard rimming discussed on Radio 4 before.

Do you think he's guilty and do you think the hot takes on this moribund flebsite risk putting the criminal case in jeopardy?

To have an answer to this I’d have to have been paying any attention whatsoever to Russell Brand and his trial.
Which, if it weren’t already clear, I have not. Did he do something bad?
(, Thu 29 Oct 2026, 14:34, Reply)
My understanding is that rimming is legal.

is it? ok hold still

(, Thu 29 Oct 2026, 14:37, Reply)
Just be aware though that if you refer to it as a rim job, it's taxable

(, Thu 29 Oct 2026, 17:02, Reply)
Quite a lot of rapes, by the sound of it.
So, yes, if you consider rape to be quite bad.
(, Thu 29 Oct 2026, 15:51, Reply)
Yeah, I guess.
Quite bad.

I think he's probably guilty but it'll be difficult to convict.

I think that creepy violent rapist Russell Brand should be put in the same cell as creepy violent rapist David Walliams,
and they should be locked in until they rape each other to death.
(, Thu 29 Oct 2026, 14:43, Reply)
i think he's innocent of all charges as well
Glad to find someone on the same page, and in the same booky wook
(, Thu 29 Oct 2026, 14:46, Reply)
I think he was quite good as the fat horoscope man on TV-AM and Good Morning Britain.

(, Thu 29 Oct 2026, 14:50, Reply)
I never liked his act (if it is an act, rather than just him being himself)
but I heard many years ago that he'd written a blog post about his experience of overcoming addiction. I was intrigued to read it, on the basis that however loathesome I found the man, he was clearly intelligent, and I was interested to hear what he had to say.

The overriding gist of it was: to beat addiction, you just have to be... Russell Brand. The blinkered narcissism was palpable, then and always.

so you're saying there's a chance?

(, Thu 29 Oct 2026, 15:29, Reply)
It's a 1 in 8 billion chance, but yes.

The judge said not to speculate
but he didn't say anything about sharing information published on a US website in July

I just found this out
he's the one who has threatened to off himself if he's hauled before the beak, yeah? I mean, you could make a very convincing Little Britain character out of the awful sex-pest celeb who says "you can't tell the police or I'll do myself in!"

"Computer says: ‘nonce’"

(, Thu 29 Oct 2026, 15:27, Reply)
Is anyone actually even slightly surprised by any of this?
When the Dispatches programme was announced a few years ago, I think most people assumed it would be Brand or Walliams and it was a toss-up which one would be first. The other was bound to follow suit sooner rather than later.
(, Thu 29 Oct 2026, 15:29, Reply)
Even in the St. Trinian's films, he comes across as noncey

(, Thu 29 Oct 2026, 14:57, Reply)
Well. I mean. If ever there was an appropriate place to let the noncey-woncey out of the bag
it'd be a movie about rampant schoolgirls.

Probably why he agreed to do it

I'd like to see him convicted on the basis of solid, substantiated evidence and testimony
rather than merely on the basis of him being a creepy arsehole, since there are plenty of people who would convict him on that basis alone.
(, Thu 29 Oct 2026, 17:17, Reply)
What solid evidence would you admit in historical rape/sexual assault charges?

(, Thu 29 Oct 2026, 17:22, Reply)
Well, this is it.
There isn't going to be anything forensic, so we're back to the old he said/she said.
(, Thu 29 Oct 2026, 17:37, Reply)
I guess this is why we have a jury, advised by a judge.

Alt: how do you propose to "substantiate" testimony in cases like this?
