This was my first time editing a picture since deluxe paint 2.

What's a good way to deal with the edges of a paste like this?

I find a reasonably quick way to do this if it's a large item is to select the layer with the edges (cmd/ctrl + click on the layer icon), contract selection by a couple of pixels, invert selection, apply gaussian blur.

Other methods are available.
