# Ha!
Minor threadjack:

I'm looking at getting back into some form of gaming, but I've no clue as to what systems are about now and what games are any good. The last thing I really played was Perfect Dark on the N64. In fact, I was playing it last night, but I've had that N64 for 15 years and could do with something a bit different.

# All sorts, I guess. I like FPS,
but I'm open to others. Sports games bore me a bit, though.

# Depends on how long you've been out of it and what type you prefer
I'm very much a FPS, single-player-campaign player and like to run games on a high end PC.

My favourites are things like Half Life, Halo, Far Cry, Call of Duty etc. - they never get old. Not seen too many recent games that I like :(

Portal and Portal 2 are excellent problem solving games.

# I'm also a FPS-type.
The Mrs still loves Sinic the Hedgehog...
A few other frinds have heartily recommended a PS3, but to wait until we move back to Britain on the whole regionalisation bit.

# Depending on PC spec...
Install Steam. Tons of free and cheapo games on there of all types. Old and new.

# Get an XBox 360 and download Perfect Dark
Nothing like as much slowdown and a texture buffer bigger than 4k: Perfect Dark the way it should be played!

(Or get a PS3 and a copy of Time Splitters: Future Perfect. It's a PS2 game but looks way better upscaled to 720p. It's like Perfect Dark but a lot less serious. You can play as a fucking shoal of fish. Or a sock.)

# I heard Time SPlitters was good.
I'll check that out when I've got something to play it on.

# It's the same team that did Perfect Dark
so it's got very much the same feel, controls as similar as it's possible to be with the different controllers, and as near identical a multiplayer/bot deathmatch as they could get without breaking the law. So, alas, you won't find Kazesim or Judgesim, but on the other hand you can fight against the gingerbread man or someone who isn't donald duck, and the losing player can have a load of monkeys running around with guns fighting on their side.

oh, and you can do monkey curling in one of the challenges.

i honestly think that future perfect is the best computer game of all time, particularly if you've any friends who like multiplayer fps and aren't up their own arses (which is unfortunately very few people).
