Also, b3ta is dying: Daily post count drops to half in a year

I'm sad to hear that.
I'm still having fun here, just a bit less often that's all :)

Mind you, the whole internet seems in a slow decline.
Facebook is a lot slower these days as are several other forums I use. I reckon it's smartphones - easy to read stuff on them, but harder to reply than when you're sat in front of a keyboard. I reckon we still have as many users/lurkers, just fewer of them posting.

that's because eveyone and their mum is on facebook,
annoying uncles who keep spamming you with stupid game invites and "liking" every coroprate shit sandwich in the hope of getting something free makes facebook a bit shit

So much this^
"Cousin Fuckface like Vagisil. Like Vagisil for a free sample"
Bores me to fucking tears.
That and a whole bunch of people giving a blow-by-blow commentary on the olympic opening ceremony.

I looked up the dates of significant post milestones
and plotted a graph. The lower graph is the daily post rate between measurements.
Ah, how I remember the 10,000,000th post...

If you let one part of the site be over run with retarded narcissist, bitter fuckwits
the odds were the rest of all this will inevitably follow, as overall interest being here will diminish

I guess QOTW was the middle ground
between the different boards. Turned out badly, though. I see where some of the more abrasive personalities are coming from in terms of some of the real needy attention seekers, but it's too far when a story that fits all the criteria gets beasted for no real reason.

What's killed it is the usual tossers spreading discord and ill-will in replies, week after week
it's obvious who they are; simply remove them from this place, and harmony might return
Why the fuck have they ever been tolerated in the first place?

That;s two QOTWs aborted in a month.
I wonder if the naughty step/banhammer will come out? Mind you, the whole place will be overrun with Honda Accord drivers and "I got the last laugh" stories if there's no counterbalance.

But at least that was more preferable to what's been allowed to unfold
I removed myself from the b3ta Facebook group I set up yesterday because it's simply become a mirror to everything that's shit about this place; they actually seem to relish antagonising other people. In real life that's a recipe for having the shit kicked out of you when your past eventually catches up with you.

Aye, there's a point in that.
A certain mustelid-based chap does it very well, but some of the others a far too blunt to be amusing. One day, someone's going to really throw the rattle out of the pram. Internet lawyers at dawn, etc.

The internet has far more distractions than it did 2, 5 or 10 years ago.
A lot of the solid ideas became fractured and divisive, or tried to be all things to all people, and were distilled across other sites into streamlined upstarts - multiplying the demands for online attention and diluting people's loyalties.
There's also the matter of increased demands by the real world.
These vampires won't slay themselves, and I have much to do before sunset.

Aye,
Work is so completely draining right now that I can barely raise a mildly amusing thought these days, let alone make a picture of it.
My boss consumes results and goodwill int eh same way my children consume food - voraciously with no gratitude and no idea of how long it took to get it ready.

Your boss is probably a vampire.
Hammering two feet of wood through his/her chest will soon fix that.

Think most forums have been hit in the same way.
I'd probably blame Twitter which appeals to the chattier types.
That said, I do think that b3ta remains unique in being a great place to launch work, since most rival sites focus far too heavily on mass-appeal virals rather than the more interesting or Brit-centric stuff.
Shame we've lost a couple of good members like Clay recently, though.
