# Director - JJ Abrams
(, Fri 25 Jan 2013, 9:36, archived)
# that's what the rumours are saying at the moment
(, Fri 25 Jan 2013, 9:43, archived)
# confirmed I think
Just saw Simon Pegg congratulating him on Twatter
(, Fri 25 Jan 2013, 9:45, archived)
# I kind of thought that might be the case as I was composing that response.
Well, why not. He fucked Star Trek right up, but surely there's nothing further he can do to trash Star Wars...
(, Fri 25 Jan 2013, 9:46, archived)
# Bring back Jar Jar Binks?
(, Fri 25 Jan 2013, 9:47, archived)
# I would watch Phantom Menace over and over again, skipping through the disc purely to the Jar Jar Binks scenes...
Rather than have my eyes raped by the pile of crap that was Trek again.
(, Fri 25 Jan 2013, 9:51, archived)
# Not a fan then?
(, Fri 25 Jan 2013, 9:52, archived)
# what was wrong with Star Trek
Other than Simon Pegg's awful comedy character? (not you Simon, the other one)

(, Fri 25 Jan 2013, 9:53, archived)
# I too thought Star Trek was OK.
I'd prefer to watch that than Star Trek The Motion Picture.

Do I have to start running now?
(, Fri 25 Jan 2013, 10:12, archived)
# The plot device "Oh yeah, I can teleport to a ship that's *at warp*
Kinda convenient.
(, Fri 25 Jan 2013, 10:18, archived)
# and out of all the absurd technologies, you're picking that?
are you a deep fan?
(, Fri 25 Jan 2013, 11:41, archived)
# Yes, and no
Red matter that can implode anything? Fine, we'll go along with that nonsense because it might be some exotic matter that is just a convenient ultimate-weapon. But when the plot gets to "Ok, we're stranded on this remote iceplanet and the ship is zooming away really quickly and we need to catch up" it's a bit lazy to just say "Oh, let's just beam there using this wonderful technology that I've conveniently been working on and might beam us into the water processing unit with hilarious results".

Indeed, all the "comic" moments were a bit "errm" to me.

# fairy muff :)

# Kevin Smith has talked at length about things like this, where a piece of nonsense irks the fans.
But come the fuck on, the ground rules for transporters have been around for years, it's just fucking wrong.

Come to think of it, Spock has Kirk ejected onto a hostile planet for no other reason than he's pissing him off. That's a much bigger WTF moment for me. Why didn't anyone else on the bridge question this?
(, Fri 25 Jan 2013, 13:30, archived)
# Pegg hardly stood out in the raft of poorly-realised characters...
About the only one who was in the least bit convincing was Bones.

Above all though, it's my belief that Trek is based on the premise of "it all turned out more or less OK for humanity, and then..." so to reboot the whole feckin' tale on an out and out war footing is utterly crass.
(, Fri 25 Jan 2013, 10:25, archived)
# I have no idea what you're on about there
I thought Star Trek was based on the premise of Grown men running around in a gravel pit going "peeeow" with lasers at people in funny masks

Same as star wars, except they liked forests and deserts more
(, Fri 25 Jan 2013, 10:28, archived)
# I like how they employed Aleksandr Orlov as Chekov.
(, Fri 25 Jan 2013, 10:40, archived)
# don't forget george
(, Fri 25 Jan 2013, 10:49, archived)
# I've been trying to since he viciously sodomised me*
*he didn't viciously sodomise me

phew, all worked out ok in the end
(, Fri 25 Jan 2013, 11:44, archived)
# gently sodomised, then?
(, Fri 25 Jan 2013, 12:13, archived)
# he is a considerate lover, yes
*bokes*
(, Fri 25 Jan 2013, 14:43, archived)
# I liked the Star Trek reboot and I am a big Trek fan ( I play Star Trek Online ffs)
Repeat watching makes me cringe though, the plot devices are stupid and the Enterprise looks mildly shit.
(, Fri 25 Jan 2013, 12:38, archived)
# I agree with that last point more than anything else raised.
The enterprise did look mildly shit.
(, Fri 25 Jan 2013, 12:57, archived)
# I've played STO too, up to 50th level
But it sucks that you have to pay to get a decent top-level ship. Damn them and their needing a revenue source to run a free game!
(, Fri 25 Jan 2013, 13:19, archived)
# I'm grinding for an Odyssey Class at the moment, also at level 50.
I'm using my Klingon character as well. They have more missions where you can pick up Contraband, better drops too. I mail it to my Starfleet character and turn it in for dilithium.

Hark at me, a regular bloody Gamesmaster!
(, Fri 25 Jan 2013, 13:34, archived)
# more Rastafari aliens
also could follow the star wars tradition of getting the worst actor he can find to play a skywalker....just for familiaritys sake.
(, Fri 25 Jan 2013, 9:55, archived)
# I'm sure I heard people shouting this outside the town hall
(, Fri 25 Jan 2013, 10:09, archived)
# wait, what?
more Star Wars?

It'll end up like Eastenders

"Leave it Darf, 'e aint werf it!"
(, Fri 25 Jan 2013, 10:11, archived)
# you not heard?
Disney bought it all, with the intention to release at least one related film every year (if not more - think the Ewok movies) starting 2015
(, Fri 25 Jan 2013, 10:13, archived)
# oh good lord
(, Fri 25 Jan 2013, 10:32, archived)
# I think we need to see more of Anakin's formative years, before he met Qui-Gon.
Three or four films should just about cover it.

# and a trilogy of Yoda's fight for Disability Allowance
(, Fri 25 Jan 2013, 10:37, archived)
# Dooku was secretly a benefits fraud investigator, he soon got Yoda jumping about.
(, Fri 25 Jan 2013, 10:43, archived)
# you mean those years when he was performing in the Mos Eisley Disney club
doing all those song and dance numbers. Yeah, might happen ;D
