thread jack,

does anyone else computer run slow when there are large animations?
(, Mon 1 Sep 2003, 16:33, archived)
# depends
on how many and how complex and what you're watching them in
(, Mon 1 Sep 2003, 16:34, archived)
# in a word
no
(, Mon 1 Sep 2003, 16:34, archived)
# yup
it's very annoying.

# yes
the interweb hamster runs slower when people post shite animations*

* see above for shite animation
(, Mon 1 Sep 2003, 16:36, archived)
# no, but
if people don't set the frame delay properly
(ie let it default to zero), my computer spends all it's time animating, and then everything else lags.
(, Mon 1 Sep 2003, 16:44, archived)
# It's not about large animations IMO
I think it's more of an issue where the frame delay isn't specified (or is very small).

A medium sized image animating at 25Hz (ie, 40ms per frame) is a lot of work (especially if the browser is decoding each frame every time - which saves a lot of memory but adds to processor overhead).
