Hi, remember me
I asked if anyone could get me a skateboarding monkey. How did that piss everyone off so bad??? Cheers for the attempts though.
I shall now return to the lurking for fear of causing further offence.

People do this stuff for fun
It's no fun if someone tells you what to do.

I thought...
... it was a request. Who the hell am I to order strangers about?

yes, that's a great word to use
because tdavidj is really going to know what it means.

equally clear
as proverbial mud... you have to explain WHY, including what means a thread's been wasted.
and as there's really no such thing as a wasted thread, then you have to put up with us telling you so afterwards

well for that matter
who the hell are you to make requests of strangers

that's how it comes over though
even though it was a request...
most places call that "commisioning," and it usually costs money

OK maybe that was badly worded
but people want to make their own ideas, they can't be bothered to do stuff because someone asked them to.

Generally we don't like to be asked to create something specific on demand for people.
If you want stuff made to your spec pay some arty graffic designer some silly money to make it

Oh right...
I have no need of a skating monkey and if I did I would pay one of you guys for it, I thought it would be funny today has been unbelieveably dull.

It's because
when you post a new thread, it's knocks one off the end of the board.. so in putting your challenge to the board, you knocked someone's hard work off the end, hence forth - "threadwasting" next time, would be easier and less of an annoyance to people to "threadjack" i.e. reply to an existing thread...!

no it's not

in that case
you should have made it yourself...
we all make what WE think will be funny - no matter how crap we think we might be at it, it's the fact that we thought of it and made it ourselves that makes it appealing to us, and hopefully to others

fair enough
bein asked to make stuff, or even worse being provided with a picture of someone to deface, never go down all that well.

except on my little sister's birthday
when for some reason I got a load of really REALLY good replies. It was a slow sunday though.

Sundays are a bit different
I think during the working day, the stress of trying to be on the board, and not get caught not doing any work, increases the anger.

What's so fucking funny about a skateboarding monkey?
Sounds cliched and derivative to me.

these parts are often nicer
after five of the o'clock. but we're here to have a bit of a laugh and make show off silly things we've made, that's all. and half of us are dead rubbish at doing pictures, but still give things a go if we think it'd be fun.

the offence was caused
because we're mostly here to display what we've made, rather than to take free commisions for other people... during your lurking, surely you'd have noticed that when people ask for stuff, usually they get sent to google or asked if we should consider ourselves "your (topic of discussion) bitches"
so long as you don't just come in and say "make me one of these 'cause I suck", you'll be welcome to hang around... but no matter how much you think you suck, you can still at least try it yourself - or perhaps offer cash money for the people who make what you like best, perhaps?

By doing exactly what you've just done again.

And you were doing so well.
All you have to do is not start a new thread for something like this. Just add your request, comments or whatever onto the bottom of another thread. The board can only fit ten or fifteen(can't remeber which) threads, so when you threadwaste, you may push off a picture that someone had spent hours on. And don't worry about the abuse, we all got it at one point for doing something daft without realising. Oh, and welcome.
Edit: and what they said, too.
