# it cost me £136pa for the 'priviledge' of having a TV

# If I don't buy a digital box,
when they switch off analogue and I'm only watching DVDs, will I still have to pay the license fee,
seeing as though the equipment will no longer be capable of picking up TV transmissions?
(, Mon 9 Apr 2007, 14:24, archived)
# i sincerely hope not
cos i for one won't be downgrading to digital
(, Mon 9 Apr 2007, 14:25, archived)
# No - If you can prove that your TV doesn't receive any BBC channels.
(, Mon 9 Apr 2007, 14:26, archived)
# any channels
not just BBC
as the license fee also funds the commercial stations
(, Mon 9 Apr 2007, 14:27, archived)
# Interesting.
I was always told it was just the BBC channels they checked for.
(, Mon 9 Apr 2007, 14:29, archived)
# I'm afraid that the channel doesn't matter...
The license is for television receiving equipment, regardless of the channels.
It's one of the many complaints about it. You have to fund the BBC even if you
don't use it [the BBC].

# are you sure?
My dads work asked the company about it and they said that they didn't have to pay a license since they were only using their TV to play Video's and DVD's for lecturing.

They'd just get fucked sideways if they tuned in to any of the channels besides the video one

# I was referring to domestic viewing of ITV...
(, Mon 9 Apr 2007, 15:28, archived)
# If they're not receiving TV then they don't have to pay
If you're receiving TV (any TV) then you have to pay. Technically, you have to pay if the TV *can* receive TV whether you do or not so they could get fucked sideways no matter what.
(, Mon 9 Apr 2007, 15:31, archived)
# I too resent paying for a license
as all I watch is cricket and sky movies...
can't remember the last time I saw BBC,ITV, C4..

# Tv licences might have been got rid of by then :)

Subject: I know you can't see this response
But why not replace your TV with a presentation screen (i.e. no tuner) and then the licence authorities can go fuck themselves but you can still watch DVDs etc.

Maybe someone can forward this suggestion to Micto for me :)
