# floaty lanterns

CFB [1024x768]. A work in progress... my first good pull from the plate. Done with aquatint, which in this gase is basically spraying a zinc plate with black spraypaint, and etching it in acid. Plate gets loaded up with ink, then sent through a press. Approx 9'x6'. Hope I can lighten up the reflections a bit. May just be a matter of wiping the plate down more.

# I dig
is the white bit at the top intentional?

edit: is this a photograph?

# yes
if you mean the border, thats from the paper. They do look a bit better with a proper border. The greyish at the top is meant to be a horizon. I'll probably darken that up a bit.

It's a type of etching... Probably spent 10 hours on it so far. Here's a bit about aquatint

I have to be honest, I prefer the connor remix on this one.

# Is the fade from the top to bottom of each lantern achieved when spraypainting
or by smoothly varying the amount they are etched somehow?
(, Sat 26 Apr 2008, 3:28, archived)
# by varying the darkness of the spray
Heavily sprayed areas print light, lightly sprayed areas print dark.
