# I made a mermaid.
What do you think? Any suggestions for better shopping are much appreciated.

# personally
rather than blending between the two i'd have a sharp line between scales and flesh, not neccesarily on a straight line, but the fade isn't quite right. Also the tail could be more shapely, could you mask with her original legs?

Nice tho

# and the face.
needs to be more Aerial and less Jodie Marsh.

# oh yes
I love the way he dribbles out of one side of his face.

# hah
yeah, could be a prettier model, but that's not about the shopping

# Do you mean cut the scale layer along the edges of scales?
As fot the tail, the original pic didn't have legs on it. I made it out of a rectangular scale texture and the liquified it and blended in a fin at the bottom.

Cheers :-)

# assuming mermaids live at some depth
she's too tanned ;-)

# do they live at depth?
I though they sat on rocks playing with their tits all day

# This^
Although I got bored before I added in a rock for her to sit on.

# my internets too slow for it to load properly
so i'm only commenting on the thumb. I'd blend the fish bit with a gradient mask right up to her belly button. but other than that...nice
(, Mon 14 Jul 2008, 11:25, archived)
# Cheers
Is the gradient mask where you click "new layer mask" an then draw on it ith varying shades of grey to show through the layer underneath? I've not quite got the hang of layer masks just yet...
(, Mon 14 Jul 2008, 11:29, archived)
# yep
just use the gradient tool (same place as the fill tool) on the layer mask
(, Mon 14 Jul 2008, 11:34, archived)
# that would be it :)
and the varying shades of grey is the gradient fill tool...in fact, towards the very top of the fish bit i'd have a layer of scales bump mapped (displaced) slightly under the womans skin so it looked like fleshy scales, then fading into the fish with the layer mask.
(, Mon 14 Jul 2008, 11:35, archived)
# Ooh, bump mapped
I think that was what I was looking for. Where do I find it?
(, Mon 14 Jul 2008, 11:47, archived)
# in photoshop no idea, in gimp menubar: filters > map > bump map
(, Mon 14 Jul 2008, 11:53, archived)
# nice effort
I would personally have made the tail fin a little larger/wider and perhaps not done the blend between the flesh.
Still. It's good as it is ;)

# I would expect mermaids to be prettier, to be honest
but personally I like the way you've blended it ;)

# Cheers :-)
And as for the attractiveness of the model, I refer you to my earlier comment: www.b3ta.com/board/8556089
