I have also read the book (the film is better)
(, Thu 23 Oct 2008, 14:40, archived)
# No way!
The book shits all over the film!

# What, even all that stuff about Sonnys girlfriend getting reconstructive
vaginal surgery?
(, Thu 23 Oct 2008, 14:44, archived)
# Well in a way, yeah.
The book just dealt with the characters so much better. I didn't like the lack of Albert Neri and Luca Brasi in the film. It felt more like you were entering their world in the books.
(, Thu 23 Oct 2008, 14:47, archived)
# Don't get me wrong, I liked the book.
Luca Brasi is in the film, Solono (The Turk) stabs his hand to the bar & strangles him.

As Catatonia sang "Luca Brasi sleeps with the fishes, missus"

# Ah yes, I know he was in it.
But just not as much as in the book.

And it is Sollozo ;)

# I absolutely loved the book!
And finally saw the film a little while back. It was a disappointment if I am honest.
(, Thu 23 Oct 2008, 14:41, archived)
# Hmm.
Thing is, the book will always be superior to the film, so it would be a disappointment.
This is why I don't want ANY of the books that I like to be made into films. Anyone read Altered Carbon?
(, Thu 23 Oct 2008, 14:48, archived)
# This is a truism.
However, I have seen some films which were better than the books. They are very rare though....

Altered Carbon? Nope. Not really a sci-fi fan myself.
(, Thu 23 Oct 2008, 14:50, archived)
# Fair enough.
Which films/books are they? 'course books based on films/tv are almost always drivel. Mmmmm...fan-fiction.

# I am trying to think at the moment :D
Any Stephen King book I have ever read has been wank but I have enjoyed his films....

# I've only watched it once
I just found it so tedious in the middle.

And I haven't seen either of the sequels.
(, Thu 23 Oct 2008, 14:44, archived)
# Well, I wouldn't bother with the third one.
