# Yes! It sucks. I'm building a house. And haven't had electricity for over a year.
Waaah!

# building a house is awesome though
how on earth do you b3ta with no leccy?

# I run a diesel generator in the morning.
Then a laptop during the day. Which I wear in a backpack while on the tractor. Which is nice. And then a gen at night. I just bought humongous rolls of wire. But planning won't let me hook up until they feel like the moment is right. Or something.

# why do some of you put your
computer cases on the desk? The belong on the floor, out of the way. Mines locked in it's own little cupboard where it can not annoy me with pointless blue lights emitting from every fan.

# I do agree with this
But they are called desktops:P

EDIT: And stereo speakers both to one side!!!

EDIT EDIT: Needs more cowcat kettleman!

# no you numpty
a desktop is a different kind of case and oriented horizontal, for desk use.
These are called Towers and meant to be floor standing.
(, Sun 15 Mar 2009, 16:41, archived)
# Still called desktops when I working id 2nd-3rd line support for seven years!
(, Sun 15 Mar 2009, 17:06, archived)
# Mine's on my desk
Because I have no room on the floor for it. I disconnected all the LEDs so they woudln't annoy me at night.

# My floor is like a muddy swamp.
As it stands, I have to get out the air line and blow the mountains of dirt out. I'm in the process of waiting for planning to decide when I can build a house. I live in the dirt. Waah!

# A computer on the floor
pulls in large amounts of dust and debris. On a desk, significantly less.

Also, PC in a cupboard = heat buildup = unhealthy PC, generally.
(, Sun 15 Mar 2009, 16:38, archived)
# The desk I have cost
me £370 and the cupboard is designed for the tower. It has fan assisted airflow.

PC fans will pull dirt out of the air wherever they are and is dependent upon how much of a dirty fucker you are.

I had enough lectures in Uni regarding airflow and filtration. I don't need it on b3ta ;)

# I have 4 at this desk. One in a cupboard
2 towers to the left of the desk on the floor and am old compaq desktop running the server sits on top of those. It's quite neat.

I have another at the other desk that sits on a plinth with feet to raise it a few inches from the ground but it is well away under the desk.
Monitors and speakers on desks for me. I don't even want to see the keyboard and mouse, let alone the tower.

# I edited...
...after you replied because I spacked up my original attempt.

Anyway from my perspective I don't mind if the kit is on the desk, as long as I have plenty of desk room.

As for the floor debate, I'm with you on that. Just hoover, FFS.

# Good question
Mine was only on my desk when I installed it. Now it's on the floor.
