# i never liked this tradition
i would be happy to see it fade out

there's few things more discouraging than

my post
i spent ages on this, but the rest of the board aren't too impressed
someone's repost
i am posting this because it's relevant and it got a good response at the time

# That just needs a bit more consideration for reposting, surely.
I try to wait till a few other replies are in before reposting.
Doesn't mean we should all churn out old stuff in new threads
(, Wed 22 Apr 2009, 21:08, archived)
# i guess i can understand it during the day
there's over an hour's worth of stuff on the board at the moment though, it's not going to solve any problems putting reposts in other folk's threads. unless it's funny of course. i'm a firm believer in roger rabbit physics

# Chucking it in an existing thread still gets it clicked and in the challenge listing.
There'll be plenty of people with reposts ready to go, if they all spurt at once in new threads any new work will be lost completely.
In fact, a slower board with posts in existing threads may get all the new and reposts seen more than a lightning fast board with new thread reposts.

# but the FAQ says don't do it.
And having the attitude that you'll ignore the FAQ because it does not suit you just makes b3ta shit.
Wednesday night is a shit night to post anything that you take some effort to make because it will quickly disappear under a deluge of reposts in new threads or a 20 second photoshop that has absolutely no connection to the brief of the challenge and that also makes b3ta shit.

I've said it before and I'll say it again. B3ta needs a /challenge board. Keeps everything nice and organised then and you can post any old shit you like as I'll not have to look at it.

# I remain against any breaking up of the image board.
I'm too lazy to trawl two boards at once.
(, Wed 22 Apr 2009, 21:21, archived)
# me too.
I just don't want the b3ta page running at 100 miles an hour full of shit I don't want to see. You can't even have a decent conversation before it's off into page 3.

# i like the idea of a challenge board
to be honest, i didn't know it was in the faq. that's me told!
(, Wed 22 Apr 2009, 21:24, archived)
# I've noticed this too
I'm not sure which side I fall on, I can see it from both angles, but this has occured to me on many an occasion
(, Wed 22 Apr 2009, 21:08, archived)
# I don't mind reposts in a new thread I've posted
but it annoys the fuck out of me when the first comment is a picture or a TJ without any comment.

or those ignorant cunts who say ris

# I agree with this
(, Wed 22 Apr 2009, 21:10, archived)
# so you think pictures that have been posted a dozen times before
should be put in new threads?

I understand what you're saying, I just think posting in someone elses thread is the lesser of two evils.

People commenting more on a fail post than an image post, now that IS fucking annoying
(, Wed 22 Apr 2009, 21:10, archived)
# I've probably posted that 3 times in as many years
hardly a dozen.... sheesh
(, Wed 22 Apr 2009, 21:13, archived)
# hahahaha

(you are joking right? - I wasn't refering to yours)
(, Wed 22 Apr 2009, 21:15, archived)
# same here, i don't think it's a one-sided thing
but the repost rulettes* are to stop things getting pushed off the board too fast, it's really not killing the board when we're travelling at this sort of speed

*i can't think of a better name for them. satisfyingly, the closest the faq has to a rule is this:

I made an image ages ago that fits with this week's challenge, is it OK to repost it?
We would prefer that you made a new picture instead, that's what the image challenge is for. No reposted image has won the challenge yet.
(, Wed 22 Apr 2009, 21:17, archived)
# but it does not say
"do whatever you like depending on how fast you perceive the board to be moving"

It's a black and white issue. You either allow it or you don't and people who know that they should not do it, but do it anyway are discourteous cunts who may as well say " fuck your images, look at this again"
(, Wed 22 Apr 2009, 21:22, archived)
# see above
my first parse of the faq was just for the word "repost". i went back and had a proper read. (yeah, i know, mods ought to know it like the bible...)
(, Wed 22 Apr 2009, 21:26, archived)
# hehe. Mods don't need to know shit.
you don't actually do anything ;)

# i do!
i drink beer and cause arguments

proper audible chuckles there. I need a laugh. The football is making me miserable.

# Surely, though
The fact that someone's posted something popular on your thread means that more people are likely to look at your thread, and therefore are more likely to comment on your picture as well?
(, Wed 22 Apr 2009, 21:13, archived)
# In theory: yes

but usually not
(, Wed 22 Apr 2009, 21:18, archived)
# it's far better than your post being
pushed off the main page because someone thinks that their image deserves another go.

I don't care if I get any replies to my images. If I made pictures for b3ta on the premise that I want people to say nice things about it then I'm wasting my time.
