# This is super!
I have a 400D but i need to learn how to use it! I only have the kit lens and am unsure of the best lens to buy... I do a lot of landscapes, but would love to get into wildlife pics!

# i got the 350D
great camera, what I did is buy an adapter to fit the FD lenses from 1980... they're manual focus but hey thats the fun of photography right?
put it this way a 500mm lens cost me £60 (i think can't rmemebr) where the modern equivlant is £4000 - which one am i going to buy?
Nice pics as per usual Jahled

I actually have got to know the guy, and he's lovely, and not in Canon's payroll. His reviews are surprisingly accurate. For landscapes you want something nice and wide, though with a 400D I would watch your pennies; it would be pointless to splash out on an L-lens on a non full-frame body :)
(, Sat 9 May 2009, 20:05, archived)
# I must admit to being a complete newbie here
so I don't actually know what 'L-Lens' and 'non full frame body' mean!

I just had some spare cash and bought the 400d and now want to do more with it than take snaps!
(, Sat 9 May 2009, 20:16, archived)
# Canon, like Nikon, is a good brand given their lens ranges are so extensive at all levels
Canon with the most versatile range

L-lens' are simply the best glass they produce, but come at at hideous cost. I spent £10K last year, and am making inroads on that this year

Full frame is a 'classic size' the camera shoots; most cameras are cropped; Wikipedia it :)

# Thanks for that!
The last 'serious' camera I had was a Zenit E (SLR on the cheap) back in the 70's!
so it's all new now!

# I'm going to look like a twat for this.
but... The focal point looks under-exposed. Don't you use a flash fill?
It looks a bit flat to me but a quick bit of processing can add some life to it ( if also a bit of license regarding actual colour )

# Mine on the left wins by a mile mate ;)
Not fond of flash, I prefer natural light
(, Sat 9 May 2009, 20:20, archived)
# Standard procedure for
backlit subject shots would be to have a filling flash though? Was when I went to school anyway ;) I just don't like subjects with little contrast, but then that's me I suppose.

# Solo's coloration on his feathers are so beautiful
it seems a shame to spoil them to be honest with to much contrast/over-exposure
