# BLUE SCREEN OF DEATH edit
(, Wed 22 Jul 2009, 2:15, archived)
# if you edit the XP registry and add a DWORD value of 1 to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\i8042prt\Parameters\CrashOnCtrlScroll then XP will do a BSOD when you press Right Ctrl+Scroll lock twice
true story
(, Wed 22 Jul 2009, 2:20, archived)
# I installed a BSOD screensaver on a friend's computer once
Didn't really fool anyone though, let down.

# I remember that screensaver.
About a decade ago when I was an IT guy for a firm, I installed that screensaver on a number of PCs. I used to enjoy the responses of the users

# best trick I ever did was to use the old "prt scrn" button, use photoshop to save the file as a jpg
make it the background and then turn all the icons off.

Then stand back and watch the fun.

# Back in the early days of Mac OS - they came out with ResEdit - all kinds of mischief was possible
and a friend of mine developed a "System Error Bomb" that exploded after a series of dire warnings and melted down whatever was on the screen into random pixels then everything would go black! Took forever to come back to the original page while the Mac owner was freaking out. This was way before most people had modems, so it had to come in on a floppy disc...

ah, the good ol' days!
