Full filum on the Tube of Youness. Old obviously, some may not have seen it though perhaps? Worth a watch either way.

Readjusts persnickety monocle.
Joking aside, half the fun of Japanese movies is hearing the Japanese language (even if you don't get a single word)

I also think that if it's in a foreign language (and you have to read it) the acting can be crap and you don't notice, so it makes the films betterer.

but the having to read it bit can be demanding with such a visual feast, special fx laden eye candy demanding your attention whilst you're also trying to read dialogue you could otherwise be hearing - though i agree with the lack of nuance/lost in translation comments above, isn't some appreciation of visual nuance lost in translation when one is also trying to read? rambling... apologies for completely failing to make sense - i'm off to bed.

Stylistically it's brilliant and as a teen I loved it, I re-watched it a couple of years ago with my daughter only to realize what a bloody garbled mess it was.
The manga hadn't even been finished at the point that the film was released and the ending is incredibly vague as a result.

Differing translations to the dubbed version gives a different feel to the movie.
Or watch with the sound muted and assign your friends/family different roles, then recite the subtitles when your character speaks! It's like Sing-A-Long-A Sound Of Music, it's Talk-A-Long-A Kira! \o/
