This is a link post How to pull off an NHS data grab: do it during a pandemic
For yourself, read the article. www.theguardian.com/commentisfree/2021/jun/04/tories-nhs-data-grab-pandemic
Most importantly, if you care or worry about your (or others) personal UNanonymised medical data being sold to anyone who can target you knowing your public and private challenges.
Time is very short and you might have to print forms out and get them in manually.

Is a really useful resource to learn about data protection etc legislation.

Not to be mixed with with ico.org - which is about coffee.

This is a normal post So you're against the NHS using anonymised data to improve provision of services to patients?

This is a normal post I'm against NHS Digital making copies of my most personal data for the purposes of selling it to market research companies
If this were all above board then fine. However the government tried to do exactly the same thing seven years ago and were met with a deluge of reasonable concerns which they promised would be addressed. Instead of doing so, and in the wake of years of failures of the current system to ensure medical data is properly handled, the government have attempted to sneak these changes through with no fanfare and no consultation.

p.s. It's not anonymised.

This is a normal post There have been posts on social media with false information about opting out of sharing your data with the NHS.
Here's what you need to know:

There is no 30 September deadline for opting out of sharing your data. You can opt out at any time.
NHS Digital will never sell your data.
There are strict rules about how the NHS can use your data. It's only shared securely and safely.
Shared data helps the NHS. It has been used to find the first treatment for coronavirus and for vaccine research.

This is a normal post If you'd bothered to read the information on unclepill's link you'd know that this is deliberately misleading
There is a 23rd June deadline for opting out of NHS Digital's data grab. Which they don't mention on the website you've linked to, because they don't want you to know.

We all know it'll be outsourced to Lowest Bidder plc, who will leave the data on an unencrypted laptop in a taxi.

This is a normal post What a naive position...
Looking to the NHS for verification of information about the NHS doing underhand things!
"We checked, and we are definitely not doing anything underhand! Trust us!"

No.

BTW, to the lefties claiming this is a "Tory driven thing" - it's not one way or the other, they're all at it left and right. Blues are in with one group of businesses, the reds are in with others. The other colours are equally corrupt, they're just ineffectual morons, instead of effective morons.

we have CHI numbers, and as such, the NHS digital form won't let you opt out.

Which is annoying.

This is a normal post This doesn't currently apply to us in Scotland afaik
It's only England's NHS that is having its data harvested here, so no need to opt out of this one. Health is a devolved issue, which is why Westminster are trying to take these powers back - how can they make a profit from us otherwise?

It's fine.
The demographic of dumb conspiracy theorists and other tin-foil-hatters who opt out will be underrepresented in research data, so their rare conditions will receive an inferior prognosis.

This is a normal post Indeed
If I could be sure they would use the data in a careful and considered way with all the relevant privacy it deserves, then I’d happily assent. However, I’m not convinced they are capable and I’m convinced that they’d sell the dataset to anyone with the requisite beans to pay for it.
