I find it very useful, and its definitely not pointless.
Religion is pointless.

gives many people a sense of purpose and the strength to get through hard times.
Football is pointless.

and forms a very important part of social cohesion
Edit: also, the reason why some people are so against Twitter et al is that many view it as a passing wanky fad.
I haven't used it so will not comment.

You're supposed to say why football isn't pointless, then say that something else is pointless. You broke the chain.

Kerry Katona is pointless.
See, I get it!

Kerry Katona isn't... wait, I don't know who she is. But she's definitely not pointless.
Paedophilia is pointless.

I was wondering how you would explain that she isn't!
(, Wed 29 Jul 2009, 13:31, Reply)
Hang on... Right. She probably provides pleasure to teenage boys who are fans of large breasts and aren't very discriminating.
Now justify paedophilia.

it gives people like Jonathan King something to do and keeps them off puerile digital arts message boards.
I give up!

It's a simple acceptance that something cannot be achieved.
Danny Dyer is pointless.

its a a false sense of purpose, and how can it give you 'strength'?
(, Wed 29 Jul 2009, 13:23, Reply)
only made 14 (actually no, 25 having just checked after not using it for ages)updates before I realised it was pointless, even with nearly 3000 followers (mainly due to me sharing my name with someone famous and everyone assumes we must be the same person) It's very self indulgent in more short and frequent terms than f/book and not really designed to do anything of use, other then update people on 'how you feel, what you're up to' which facebook does a bit better, and with added scrabble

I closed my Facebook account a few months ago because of the terrible layout and the invasive nature of its content. Twitter allowed me to get updates from people i respect, priority news from comedians doing gigs, new releases from companies I like to buy from.
It really is not pointless.
(, Wed 29 Jul 2009, 13:30, Reply)
I'm still of the opinion it's pointless though. ;)

Good luck with Facecrap.

it doesn't do a lot, and can't really do a lot more than it does now.
but cheers :)

not sure about Cameron, but the facebook thing is easier

But I'm not a missionary, so won't say much more on the matter
(other than Twitter is what you make it: if you just talk about what you are having for dinner and that you are off to the beach, and follow similar people, yes, it is pointless. But using it like that isn't compulsory.)

but it's just as easy to sign up for updates to arrive in your inbox of people/companies you want to be kept up to date with.
You tend to get the relevant stuff and not the celebrity equivalent of 'I've bought new shoes'
