The two films that frightened me the most
are The Exorcist and The Wicker Man. Psychological/religious horror has always been more frightening to me than slash/gore flicks.

Woo.....
Those two (plus maybe The Shining) would make the ultimate fright-fest movie night.

For some reason
I've never had the same reaction to The Shining. I think that's probably because it was ruined for me by having it analysed in a Media Studies GCSE class.
Oh, and if anyone suggests the Nicholas Cage remake then I'm going to go all pcmechanic.

Yeah, dissecting a film/book for school work'd pretty much kill it.
& yeah, deliberately didn't mention the remake- Nick Cage deserved to be trapped in some kind of wooden-cage-structure & burnt to death for that!

The only film I've ever had to actually turn off
Was Michael Mann's Manhunter. That shit me up something proper.

The scariest part of that film...
...was seeing William Petersen in small, purple pants.

When I was wee I watched Carrie on TV, the scene where her mum is trying to kill her made me break out in a cold sweat.
Also the original of The Fog where they kill the priest disturbed me and the original Halloween, especially when you seem him during daylight stalking his sister.
John Carpenter was the shyzer.
Also, the original The Thing, which is a masterpiece.
Also, I concur, psychological horror is always more disturbing than gore.
Also Martyrs is very disturbing.
Also Haneke's Funny Games, the original.
Also, I'm not a horror fan but 30 Days of Night is fucking brilliant.
Also, when Sadako comes out of the screen in Ringu, great fuck breaking the 'fourth wall'.

Scheiße
Scheisse would be an acceptable substitute.

I love horror movies
But none of them unnerve me anymore. I've become to much of a rational skeptic at 'things that go bump in the night'
