it's quite robust, will take a much harder knock than that.

there are easier things to fly- i learned on a trainer- but this will survive crahses quite well so i'm planning on teaching my son to fly with it.

My James bought an RC Helicopter once and we both thought (foolishly) it would be easy to fly. However they are extremely tricky things to balance and if you smash the blades and bend the main prop-shaft it's expensive to repair and re-trim back up.

fly things made of foam, and glue them together when they break.
best thing is to make it yourself from foam. reinforce everything, build it to survive crashes.
all the "proper" people on rcgroups are always saying build as light as possible to make it fly best- I reckon they are too cautious. Clearly if you're not smashing it in to the ground every other time you try and fly it you're not pushing the boundaries.
Once something's flying comfortably it immediately becomes boring. Time to stick on a bigger motor and make it go faster, find out what happens.

Simple Plastic Aircraft Design. R/C stuff made from gutter pipe an plastic sheet. All designed to be cheap to make, fun to fly and easy to repair!

If it's not on fire or smashed to bits then it's not ready yet! ;-)

I plan to scratch build a plane but haven't found time, it's given me a good place to start. You are an inspiration to looneys everywhere! I may have to post an RC video up at some point! ;-)

Yeah i'd love to see what you've got. Re the scratchbuilds, there are plenty of free plans for dead simple, quick build designs. they go together in a few hours, really.

I'll post it later, it started as a plastic P.O.S. 1/18th scale but many crashes and rebuilds later it's now made from titanium, carbon steel and aluminium. I had to stick a gyro on it just to keep it in a straight line!

I could use my son as an excuse for buying an "educashunal" toy. Although him being a month old that might not work quote so well as planned

my son is mad for it. If you start learning now then by the time he's old enough to appreciate it you'll be a really good pilot, so that's a perfect excuse to get going.

I could strap him to the plane, let him get a *real* feel of what it's like. Maybe

Although if I had one I'd get very tempted to put a camera on it. Then accidentally pile it into a lake.

gopro on the nose- i've crashed it several times. LESSON- only a FUCKING IDIOT thinks it's ok to strap a go pro on a home made foam plane without the protective case on.
I piled one in to the ground at about 80mph without the case. not pretty.
With the case they survive pretty much anything.
