Japanese crafts
I've stumbled upon a YouTube channel which is all about traditional Japanese crafts and it's a real treasure trove. No English subtitles, but most of the time you don't need them. Fountain pens, spectacle frames, rice steamers, kimonos, spinning tops, cabinet making - all sorts of stuff.

Hey, don't get all high and mighty about it.
An octopus is as entitled to bit of sexeh time just as much as the next cephalopod.

Jeezer balances a spinning top on the edge of a samurai sword at the end of this one.

I saw that one too. Balancing them was interesting to see.
I got a rough idea of how he marked the spindle to find the off-balance, but couldn't work out how he then fine tuned it.

That was one part of it
but he was making marks on the spinning shaft to note roughly the imbalance, but then somehow he was tuning it more finely. I suppose it boils down to skill and experience.

It's kind of the opposite of China
Arts and crafts in China are more about how cheap and crappy you can make it. If it nearly falls apart under its own weight, you got it just right.

Not dissimilar to Colin Chapman's approach to car building then.

Well, his double chassis concept would have made racing much safer...
...but, yeah, drivers were expandable in those days so it was banned.
