Protection of cruelty AGAINST animals
"The cats on Ascension island were introduced in 1815 to control the populations of rats and mice. Roaming wild, these cats quickly decimated populations of seabirds on the mainland, forcing most of the seabirds, except the colonially-nesting sooty tern, to nest on offshore stacks, principally Boatswainbird Island. The project needed to remove the cats from the island. The project gained the active support and co-operation of the islanders and the Ascension Island Society for the Protection of Cruelty Against Animals. The feral cats were destroyed in accordance with animal welfare guidelines."
Protection of cruelty against animals? Ascension island actually has one of those?

Yes I did.
And I did a bit of internet research after to find out if what you wrote was true (which it was). So, it is super that there is an Ascension Island Society for the Protection of Cruelty Against Animals.

yes, happens in a lot of places where mankind thinks it's cleverer than nature

Well, it pretty much indubitably is.
That's not to say that mankind is all that clever - but it's much cleverer than nature all the same.
Nature's REALLY dumb.

I was going to say
something similar, but I've used too many of my pedant credits today already
Nature is indeed very, very dumb.

It's a self-regulating scheme
I try and limit myself to 2 major points of pedantry and 4 minor points per day.
If I exceed my credits, I have to set a kitten on fire. I don't like it, but that's the way the scheme works...

It was my overactive pedantry
that necessitated the destruction of the aforementioned cats.

I wonder if people would call me creative if I generated billions of files of random text, had people toss out all the ones they didn't like, and published the 10 last remaining files as poems!

Hasn't anyone actually read my post?
This isn't about the killing of the cats you plonks, its about it saying that there is a Protection of cruelty against animals. That is to say that is an agency designed to enforce cruelty against animals.

well, no.
Protection of cruelty against animals does not mean that they enforce cruelty, only that they aim to protect cruelty against whatever people/forces would like to eliminate cruelty. They might have a neutral opinion to the cruelty (or specific instances of cruelty) itself. Much in the same way as people say 'I don't agree with what you are saying, but I'll defend your right to say it'.
