All get called, by a certain generation... "tapes"
Get a CD software update from Sage? "Just upload the tapes for Sage would you?"
It gets better... There's no such thing as a USB memory stick. No. It's a "Saving Pen"
There's more of these, I just can't remember them right now... meh!

that I still "tape" off the telly, either using a DVD recorder or the Sky+ box.
It's just easier than saying "I'll box that" or "I'll disc you a copy".

Mind you, I still call the remote control a 'channel-changer' and the cinema is 'Lumiere Brothers patented magic-lantern show"

As in "I forgot to skyplus it", "I'm out tonight so I'll have to skyplus it"...

Leonard of Quirm from the Discworld books, and his utter lack of imagination when it comes to making names for his inventions. Take his submarine, or as he would say, "The Going Under The Water Safely Device".

Television is Fernseeapparat, IIRC - a machine for seeing a long way.
but then Television is an amalgam of greek and latin for "distance seeing".

to refer to language-learning audio, in whatever medium. It just seems wrong to say CDs/mp3s in that circumstance.
I've also noticed a bizarre kind of hypercorrection, where people will say "In 1949 Miles Davis released the CD Birth of the Cool" or DVD when they mean video cassette.
Be kind to our older brethren, though - technology moves a lot faster than in their day.
