This is a question First World Problems

Onemunki says: We live in a world of genuine tragedy, starvation and terror. So, after hearing stories of cruise line passengers complaining at the air conditioning breaking down, what stories of sheer single-minded self-pity get your goat?

The nanny state has taken my civil liberties
because I can't smoke in a pub.
Next you'll lose the vote and then be stoned to death for unproven adultery.

For the record I would bring back smoking in pubs after 10pm. Bit of atmos.

no freaking way
(, Wed 7 Mar 2012, 19:25, closed)
They have taken our civil liberty.
But we're not allowed to say that because then people bring up the things like the one you mentioned.
Of course it's not the end lf the world to not be able to smoke inside in any public places, but it it fucking annoying to be treated like children by a bunch of jumped up twats all the same.

Nothing says atmosphere
like the acrid stench of burning leaves.
(, Wed 7 Mar 2012, 19:38, closed)

leaves je.. no, I'm not gonna go there.
(, Wed 7 Mar 2012, 19:59, closed)
Jeeves?
No, that would be monstrous - what ever would Bertie do without him?
(, Wed 7 Mar 2012, 20:10, closed)
Jess?
I knew that Pat was a right evil cunt, but this is too far.
(, Wed 7 Mar 2012, 21:58, closed)
Oh there's a B3ta joke to be made here
but I can't quite bring myself to be the one to do it.
(, Thu 8 Mar 2012, 8:42, closed)
Please don't

(, Thu 8 Mar 2012, 11:38, closed)
so pubs that smell of farts are better?
I THINK NOT.
(, Thu 8 Mar 2012, 15:52, closed)
Pubs that don't serve food should be able to apply for a smoking licence.

(, Wed 7 Mar 2012, 20:14, closed)
I don't see why creating a negative pressure smoking room where no staff are allowed is prohibited.
Well, I suppose some staff would have to be allowed in but they could wear paper clothes and respirators.
To me it's the fact that even solutions where only those who choose to smoke are exposed to it are banned which makes this an infringment of liberties. It means it is the action which is banned and not its consequences and, though I admit it's unlikely, it sets a precedent to ban anything anywhere "just because".
(, Wed 7 Mar 2012, 20:24, closed)

I'd like to see smoking banned in all public places tbh.
(, Wed 7 Mar 2012, 20:27, closed)
So you didn't read my post?
Or are you oposed to people being allowed to congregate and smoke, should they wish to, as long as it harms nobody else?
If it's the latter I'd prefer you didn't breath, therefore it ought to be law.
(, Wed 7 Mar 2012, 20:35, closed)

I read your post which contained your thoughts. I then posted my thoughts. I guess I should die for doing that. Carry on.
(, Wed 7 Mar 2012, 20:39, closed)
Indeed you should.
Scum who want to comtrol everyone else's lives are something the world is better off without.
(, Wed 7 Mar 2012, 21:02, closed)

Yeah, because not wanting to breathe your smoke is controlling your life. I like your alternative - you should control things yourself by weeding out people who want to control things and killing them. Well done. Carry on.
(, Thu 8 Mar 2012, 9:15, closed)
So you didn't read my original post then.
Fair enough, didn't think you did.
FYI I said public smoking ought to be allowed as long as nobody else had to breath it in.
In case you didn't realise it's possible to allow people to make their own choices without harming others.
(, Thu 8 Mar 2012, 11:21, closed)
"FYI I said public smoking ought to be allowed as long as nobody else had to breath it in."
You mean like smoking in public when you're the only one there kind of thing?
(, Thu 8 Mar 2012, 11:50, closed)
I explained what I meant.
There is a difference between smoking in any and all public spaces and having spaces specially created for smoking into which nobody need go unless they want to.
If the government weren't such cocks they could have easily, possibly using existing regulations, banned the former whilst still allowing the latter.
Either you're being willfully awkward or you're a complete moron.
(, Thu 8 Mar 2012, 12:52, closed)
Enjoy your lungs.

(, Thu 8 Mar 2012, 16:15, closed)

Light another one mate. I can see how this all makes sense in your head.
(, Thu 8 Mar 2012, 18:56, closed)
I don't smoke.
Perhaps it would make sense to you if your IQ were out of double figues.
(, Thu 8 Mar 2012, 19:19, closed)

Yep, you've got me there. I'm clearly a moron. Well played. Totally exposed...

except... b3ta.com/questions/firstworldproblems/post1552441
(, Thu 8 Mar 2012, 19:27, closed)
You're still a moron.
It's not the end of the world, but still a problem caused by idiots like you.
(, Thu 8 Mar 2012, 19:39, closed)

Oh god, I'd love to spend a few minutes inside your head. What a wonderful place it must be.
(, Thu 8 Mar 2012, 19:42, closed)
I proposed a solution to the problems of public smoking without banning it completely.
You seem to fail to understand that it is possible to have a public space in which smokers smoke with no harm to anyone else.
(, Thu 8 Mar 2012, 19:54, closed)

oh god, i give up
(, Thu 8 Mar 2012, 19:56, closed)
I told you you didn't read my post.

(, Thu 8 Mar 2012, 20:07, closed)

I hope i never have to read one of them ever again
(, Thu 8 Mar 2012, 20:10, closed)
Drink will be next.

(, Wed 7 Mar 2012, 20:32, closed)
A pressure altitude of about 50,000 feet should do the trick.

(, Thu 8 Mar 2012, 10:54, closed)
Farts in no-smoking pubs are even more popular

(, Wed 7 Mar 2012, 20:28, closed)
But smoking leads to communism, heroin abuse and paedophilia.
This is a scientific fact, or at least it will be when our academic yes-men gain enough power in their field to blacklist any journal that dares to publish a dissenting viewpoint.
(, Wed 7 Mar 2012, 20:30, closed)
Terrible idea
And that's coming from a heavy smoker. I really like my clothes not stinking like an astray the morning after a night out.
(, Wed 7 Mar 2012, 22:37, closed)
I get naked before I light up, it's easier

(, Thu 8 Mar 2012, 11:40, closed)
don't ban smoking
Smoking is an great thing to do for your society. Smokers more than pay their way in taxes vs. the extra cost to the health system and then they die quickly after a full working life without lingering on in expensive resthomes.
couldn't specifically recommend it to any friends or family however
(, Thu 8 Mar 2012, 8:12, closed)
I have to congratulte the anti smoking lobby, on making sure I continue to smoke.
Before the ban, I was smoking probably 20 a day, or if out on the lash, anything up to 40. Had done for years. I was about 40 when the ban came in, and I understood that there was a serious risk in continuing to smoke such a lot.

Since the ban came in, I really find it difficult to smoke more than about 5 or 6 cigarettes a day. Going out on the piss makes no difference of course.

That's not enough to worry me. I can live with that risk, so thanks weenies, I shall carry on puffing.
