In this post from the last QOTW I linked a craigslist posting from a woman who was exceptionally demanding. This morning there was another ad from her that I have linked at the bottom of the post.
I suspect that some of the QOTW readers took the piss out of her.
Whoops...

I'm sure I'm not the only one who got some great suggestions for future books to read from the books qotw.
So here's my suggestion - each week (or so, maybe just when someone remembers) there's a Book thread and if you're reading something amazing tell us so we can all read it too.
My current suggestions are in the reply.

if there is one thing i hate, that i really really hate, that makes every bit of me seethe, it's when people commit to something and then cancel at the last minute.
in this particular case, we're booking a last minute holiday, and we have to do a specific week because of my friend's job. it has to be a specific budget because of my friend's budget. so on the very day we are booking it, she sends us all a big email waffling on and on. the bottom line of which is, "so yeah, i know i fucked you all around and made you miss out on all the amazing caribbean deals which have now sold out, but i'm not coming."
if you don't want to go out/on holiday/clubbing/to a party/anything, say so when you are invited. if there might be a clash, say so when you are invited. don't agree enthusiastically, promise to go, and then wait until the very last minute to let everybody down. arrrrrrrgh.
obviously genuine illness or something is acceptable, but after a while it is always the same people who are crap.
this is a rant not a question, but is it just me, or do other people get just as annoyed by this type of flakiness?!

Yesterday I bought some sealant for my kitchen, which I'm refitting (slowly and amateurishly).
The tube says that it dries "in at least 24 hours".
To my mind, that translates as meaning that, at some point between now and the end of the universe, the sealant will dry. I'm neither surprised nor reassured by this.
What ridiculous labels and warnings have you seen recently?
Hmmm... potential QoTW topic?

'Ning everyone.
Can someone point me in the direction of the last London Bash pictures please?
I'm writing a new and wonderful application and need them for nefarious purposes.
Cheers

In a year 7 English class today, the kids were looking at nouns and what differentiates proper nouns from common nouns. They made an alphabetical list for each and had to COME UP with a noun for each letter. They all managed proper nouns easily enough, but struggled with the common ones. Most of them had xylophone (without buggery, for that would be a verb) for "x" and zebra for "z". Several of them came to me saying, "Miss, we're stuck on "q"..."
I summoned all the maturity and social skills humanly possible for me and did *not* shout "QUIM!"

My lady and I have just moved out of a rental property in London and had the entire deposit returned to us.
All of it.
In full.
With no deductions or attempts to con us, filch our funds or otherwise screw us over, thus concluding our affairs with the rental agency.
I don't like it.
They're up to something.

I start a secondment on Monday. I'm looking forward to it; I'll get out and about a lot more than I do now; probably be able to rake in a few quid in mileage allowance; and best of all, I'll be based a mere 10 minutes drive from home.
The downside is that I'll have even less time to read b3ta due to the host organisation's draconian internet policy.
Fucksocks.

It hit about a 10-12 hour drive south of where I live. Unlike New Orleans, our state is always prepared for hurricanes and tornados so the cities were evacuated before the hurricane hit. Well, mostly evacuated: some people refused to leave which prompted the National Weather Service to put up a message on it's website to the effect of 'If you are still in Galveston, you face certain death'.

tinyurl.com/sexymini
That mini is being sold locally and I'd love to to buy it as I adore minis. Unfortunately I'd be unable to lay my hands on the monies this side of next Christmas so I've decided to explore an idea: Restoring a mini myself.
Unfortunately there are two hurdles I need to overcome.
1)I know nothing about restoring cars.
2)I know nowt beyond checking water/oil/tyres when it comes to maintaining a car.
Contrary to popular belief I'm not a complete halfwit; I'm only half a halfwit but I'm certain I'd be perfectly capable of carrying out most repairs given reasonable instructions and appropriate tools however the idea of building a very big, very expensive airfix kit with no glue to sniff doesn't appeal a great deal to me so I'm going to need to do some learning.
I'll be making enquiries at my local HE college about part-time courses there with regards to point 2 as I think the first step would be to get myself in a position that I could take an old, non-working mini and make it road worthy regardless of it still looking like shit.
Can anybody recommend any other avenues for learning this stuff? Some literature perhaps?

Has anyone any experience of a Section 54 notice being served on them.
My council want access to my (council) flat to install Digital TV. I dont have a TV, and the installation company only work weekdays (when I am working). So they want me to take time off from work to install something I won't use. Hence the service of a section 54 notice.
help, advice?

Last week, received warning that this thursday coming (18th) we will have no running water for an entire day.
I am pretty certain that this means we can't be in the building, as it violates health and safety.
My problem is that our boss is telling us we all still have to work, so can anyone provide me with information as to whether or not we are supposed to be in the building?
The quicker the better!
Cheers,
