What I read is "Rich twat makes sexist comment while at work, gets found out and reprimanded. Is later sacked for something similar, apparently".

Apparently something happened in Dec which has led to his sacking and the sexism just confirmed it I believe. I don't care that he's rich or that he is a twat. He did something most other men do and is being nailed because some tech goon fucked his job up. It's a bit of a strong reaction, however I reserve the right to change my mind depending on what this new evidence is.

Either way, long as I don't have to hear the complete prick anymore, it's fine by me.

So from this sample, no, 'most other men' would not do that.
Mostly I like this news because it results in a Rich Football Cunt being fired.
(, Tue 25 Jan 2011, 17:10, Reply)
together (bar monks, and gays) and sexism will most likely happen. I'm not saying it's right but ffs it's not cancer or aids or anything just chill out and have a word.
(, Tue 25 Jan 2011, 17:15, Reply)
And secondly, even if there is the odd bit of "banter" in a pub, that's not at work, is it? Sky can't be seen to tolerate that in a work environment.
(, Tue 25 Jan 2011, 17:18, Reply)
it's illegal under EU and UK employment law.
(, Tue 25 Jan 2011, 17:26, Reply)
except you can't blithely ignore international law when you're broadcasting those breaches across the world.
(, Tue 25 Jan 2011, 17:33, Reply)
it's pretty fucking hard not to, no?
(, Tue 25 Jan 2011, 17:33, Reply)
And a number of people on there have mentioned daytime magazine show 'Loose Women' as a show that seems to thrive on sexism. (I've not seen Loose Women, but I understand the premise of the the show is a gaggle of women whinging about men).
Is that acceptable, but a private conversation isn't?
(, Tue 25 Jan 2011, 17:37, Reply)
Or are the comments made on that, acceptable as it is within the context of the show?
(, Tue 25 Jan 2011, 17:42, Reply)
I think it's a vile programme mainly because of this. The fact that TV bosses at a different channel haven't sacked them but Grey has been sacked doesn't mean he shouldn't have been.
(, Tue 25 Jan 2011, 17:45, Reply)
but it is more likely to be accepted because institutional sexism on the part of women towards men is not and has never been a problem in society, but vice versa is.
(, Tue 25 Jan 2011, 17:52, Reply)
or is the reason it's acceptable because men understand it means fuck all and don't go mental about it.
(, Tue 25 Jan 2011, 17:59, Reply)
If you got caught on camera stealing something twice, would you turn around and say "Oh, it's OK. Everyone does it."?
(, Tue 25 Jan 2011, 17:34, Reply)
But in all seriousness, no of course not. But in this particular case I think the punishment is extreme. Ideally sexism and racism and most other ism's wouldn't exist but they do and not every case is black and white (no pun intended). I am not trying to upset or annoy anyone, nor am I condoning what Andy Gray did. In my opinion he has been rashly dismissed and it probably warrants a suspension, then a review following an investigation.
(, Tue 25 Jan 2011, 17:40, Reply)
do you get what I mean or am I talking double dutch?
(, Tue 25 Jan 2011, 17:42, Reply)
But the fact that he's done it repeatedly (in the space of a month!) shows he doesn't think it's wrong and won't change. Do you think no one had a quiet word with him about the December thing?
(, Tue 25 Jan 2011, 17:43, Reply)
Let's argue it that way, shall we?
(, Tue 25 Jan 2011, 17:51, Reply)
Sure, a couple of my friends might make the odd comment that's a little sexist, but most of my friends aren't sexist.
(, Tue 25 Jan 2011, 17:19, Reply)
I trust you understood the point I was trying to make.
(, Tue 25 Jan 2011, 17:22, Reply)
Not everyone's as fucking backwards as your mates.
(, Tue 25 Jan 2011, 17:19, Reply)
Secondly, that's a disciplinary offence in ANY job. Anyone working in that high profile a public role has, and rightly should have, a "no strike" rule on shit like this.
(, Tue 25 Jan 2011, 17:14, Reply)
celebrities to a more human level and encourage interaction we turn on a bloke who makes sexist comments, and because he is on telly he must be fired? Bollocks mate. He is a lad and sportsman of course he is going to be a sexist twat, he's probably racist too but he shouldn't lose his job over it. The media attention is punishment enough, people now know he is a twunt.

(, Tue 25 Jan 2011, 17:25, Reply)
Nobody is that fucking retarded.
(, Tue 25 Jan 2011, 17:29, Reply)
Are you saying that if you were talking to someone at work and twice made obscene and sexist comments about your colleagues, you'd expect to keep your job?
(, Tue 25 Jan 2011, 17:22, Reply)
I think this is the point that you really aren't fucking getting. You accept it, therefore you condone it. You condone it, therefore it doesn't change. And it needs to change.
If you really think what him and Keys said is acceptable banter, I'd keep those thoughts strongly to yourself, or else good luck holding down a teaching job anywhere.
Out of interest, do you also thing Ron Atkinson shouldn't have been sacked for calling Desailly "a fucking lazy thick nigger" ? because it's exactly the same argument.
(, Tue 25 Jan 2011, 17:23, Reply)
are both generalising to the point that neither of us are ever going to agree. I don't think Andy Gray should have been fired for sexism. The media frenzy around what, in my opinion, isn't that a big a deal has played a major part in his dismissal. RE big Ron, yes he should have been fired because racism is much worse than sexism.
(, Tue 25 Jan 2011, 17:28, Reply)
racism is exactly the same as sexism. It's discrimination on the grounds of a physical characteristic of a human being that is intrinsically and historically linked to oppression of those with that physical characteristic.
(, Tue 25 Jan 2011, 17:32, Reply)
and the intentions and motivations of the individual accused of saying said 'racist/sexist' comment can be determined from the comment alone?
(, Tue 25 Jan 2011, 17:34, Reply)
And I believe the context of the above video, he was out of order, she clearly wasn't part of the joke in any way, and he was clearly belittling her.
(, Tue 25 Jan 2011, 17:47, Reply)
However, some things ARE clearly self-explanatory, and that's where Grey falls.
(, Tue 25 Jan 2011, 17:52, Reply)
or have you just seen two clips and read a couple of articles?
(, Tue 25 Jan 2011, 17:56, Reply)
He's got previous for being a disgusting sexist - context
Do I need to fucking stalk him to prove it? No. You don't look at people like Katie Price and think "Oh, I bet she's shy and retiring at home", do you? No, you judge what you've seen her do in public and what she's previously done in public.
(, Tue 25 Jan 2011, 18:01, Reply)
'KNOWING' they are right that cause half the problems in the world anyway. A little discrestion (no idea on spelling) and patience is always better than making a rash decision.
(, Tue 25 Jan 2011, 18:14, Reply)
(, Tue 25 Jan 2011, 18:22, Reply)
neither changes the fact that they should be sacked, because it's a fucking stupid thing to make a joke over.
(, Tue 25 Jan 2011, 17:55, Reply)
What do the intentions and motivations have to do with anything? racism is racism. Sexism is sexism.
there are two alternatives. It was an ill-judged series of jokes that they must have spent ages planning as a double act to hone so well, in which case they should be sacked for being fucking idiots with no sense.
Or, they really do believe that a female linesman can't do the job properly, in which case they are institutionally sexist and exactly as bad as any racist. And past evidence points strongly to this (see - their commentry on the 1997 or 8 womens FA cup final)
neither scenario is in any way fucking excusable.
(, Tue 25 Jan 2011, 17:40, Reply)
like the one at the top of the popular page. He is being vitriolic and his comments are verbatim? I think you are trolling now!
(, Tue 25 Jan 2011, 17:44, Reply)
Monty isn't a publicly employed figure, he's not made those comments whilst at work and I seriously doubt his behaviour influences the general public
(, Tue 25 Jan 2011, 17:49, Reply)
hadn't fucked up. The more you continue this argument the more I'm convinced you're just being beligerent. You know what I mean, I know what you mean, we disagree with each other, what's the big deal? It's not going to effect my evening so why not just leave it now?
(, Tue 25 Jan 2011, 17:53, Reply)
it doesn't matter how it was made public, it's relevant.
I'm really not being belligerent, I'm genuinely quite surprised that someone who I previous thought to be quite a reasonable and pleasant chap could be this bigoted. But, absolutely, I'm not going to lose any sleep over it. Chalk one up to "no matter how much you know, you can always be surprised"
(, Tue 25 Jan 2011, 18:00, Reply)
I'm off to watch the football with my sexist friends.

Well, you know badge, there is a long list of actually funny comedians who use steriotypes to good effect
What about Bernard Manning, gonz?
I think Badge, he only appeals to the thick and the dregs of society, but it's a good point. Personally, I think people taking themselves to seriously can be a bit shit to tell you the truth.
Yeah' Gonz, I know, but what about those who have been instertutionally abused, if someone said "You're a jew so you have a big nose, haha" it would be a bit =/, but if someone said "You're a jew so we're giving the job to someone else", you'd be pissed.
Totally agree, it's the context badger.
Gonz, have you ever felt serious racisim? Do you know what it's like? Imagine if you could get your own back on them.
I have, and most of the time I would like too, but sometimes it's worth picking your battles, badger.
Yes Gonz, and this is one she should pick, it's not in the pub, it's on national TV with entire careers at stake.
Completely agree with you there badge. Just one more thing, has anyone from the weekend told you they like-like me?
Well gonz, I can't awnser that, I wouldn't betray a confidance, but chin up big fella, it's home time.
Ok badge, fair enough, I'll see your reply to this when I get home. L8erz people.
